I don't know if this once was an oasthouse but this is often the way they were built - round with a pointed roof. But this one. with the damaged roof would only be used by the birds, I would think!
There was a series of book I read in years past that were all titled, "The Cat Who..." and the main character lived in a round "apple barn". I've always tried to picture it, and I think this may be just as they described it!
Nice shot, Maggie. I have seen some round barns around here but not sure of the purpose of them. You captured the essence of the barn nicely - and yes, I bet there are birds who have made this home inside!
This reminds me of when I left Uni in Scotland and took up my first job in the deep south. Until I could find accommodation, I lodged with a friend of a friend who had a room to let in an oasthouse. It's really strange having a round bedroom!
In my 20s, I lived in an area in the United States where there were a few round barns. One had been a mule barn and had been changed into a theatre (where plays were performed). It was a sad day when that mule barn theatre burned down.
You should check out @mrssmith203 She has taken lots of round barn pictures from the state of Indiana. They're beautiful! We had two near the collage I went to. One collapsed the year before I started there and they took the barn boards and used them as siding in the student burger shop. The other is still standing I think. There was also one near my Dad's home in Vt. I've got pictures of it somewhere. I should dig it up. Great shot of this one. If the birds haven't taken up residence I'll bet there's bats in there!
