Fruits of the wild.. by maggiemae

Fruits of the wild..

We picked the quinces from a roadside grove of trees and the recipe included apple (also picked of roadside tree), red pepper (grown in our glasshouse) and dates ( I had to go to Morocco for these).
The recipe had ginger and spices too.
You can't buy quinces in a shop and can really only find them in private properties.
looks yummylicious.

Nice shot! Good for you for making it yourself. I like how you've presented it.

Used to live in a house where there was a quince tree in the garden. A very old fruit. Well done for your skills in the kitchen and with the camera

Would love to taste that!

Nicely presented. I've never bought chutney in stores. wonder if I would like the taste of it.

@bruni I'm sure you would - some chutneys are more spicy or maybe hot than others. This one had 1 tsp of cayenne pepper which is quite hot!

@deliad Thanks Delia - I just followed the recipe but it made nice smells in the kitchen!

Lovely pantry shot. Wish I could go to Morocco for dates!!!

Nice shot and processing. Your pantry cupboard is a lot tidier than mine!

@nickspicsnz I keep the things in there to a minimum, Nick!

This sounds and looks wonderful - very satisfying too that most of it is gathered for free.

Nice shot of your produce. I've never had quince chutney but I love quince paste with cheese. I wonder if you never see it in shops because it is not an attractive looking fruit? Everything has to be perfect these days ...

Can't beat a good chutney. It all looks very tasty. Always great to get a roadside find. I love it when we get a pick of blackberries from the roadside.

@adayinmallacoota This is true, the quince had black epos and streaks of rotten looking flesh but it all didn't seem to spread like other fruit. I still haven't discovered the centre of this quince - so hard!

@jennywren It makes the stopping, the picking, and the processing all worth while, I feel too!

Kiwi folk are so good at preserving......I have been awed by the way you use your fruit for storing & utilising through out the winter. Hats off to you & this looks perfect!

Nicely composed shot. I'd like to try some of your chutney.
April 13th, 2015
@skstein I'd actually like to try it myself! I never taste what I'm making and just hope it works! I must cook some sausages or something!
April 13th, 2015
How exotic! Must be delicious.
April 13th, 2015
@maggiemae so if you don't try it, what do you do with it?
April 14th, 2015
@skstein I hadn't had the opportunity, Sandy but last night I cooked german sausages and used the chutney! Not sure which was the spiciest!
