The East Cape Lighthouse stands 154m above sea level on Otiki Hill, above East Cape, in the Eastland region of New Zealand. The East Cape Lighthouse is accessed by a walking track of some 700 steps. The walk is definitely worth it for the views at the top! The lighthouse was initially built on East Island, a small offshore island of about 13ha. The island proved quite hazardous, however, and in 1922 the lighthouse was relocated to the mainland. The East Cape lighthouse has featured on New Zealand postal stamps that were issued by the Government Life Insurance Office. This lighthouse series was released on 17 November 1976, and the East Cape lighthouse stamp had a value of 8 cents." From AA traveller.
We counted the steps - 758! I was pleased that although I puffed a lot, I did it. Even more pleased that my 81 year old hubby with a heart condition and a crook foot did it too with no bad consequences!
Lovely to see you both made it! I like the figure of John in the background...can't think thats you as well as I wouldn't think you could run that fast with the timer on! To think we just drove past here! Some work gone into building those steps!
A beautiful diptych and edit ! Well done both of you to climb all those steps and to be able to count the steps and recall the number -- no dementia there then !! Love the 1st image with the Lighthouse and John !! Wonderful to be "on top of the world looking down on creation " !!
Ah, yes, the wool looks beautiful after being cleaned, combed and spun. 758 steps would do me in, but for that shot- I do it!! I like the way you processed these- it really brings out the lush greenery and the windy atmosphere around the lighthouse.
@maggiemae the place we went to for the macadamia ice cream was further on from where you are now. We went the other way round & came across it around the Whiianga area, can't remember the name of the place but it was on our first leg of the journey & we stayed in Whakatane the first night. You might come across it still! Could be wrong time of year for nuts!
@happypat mmm.... there appears to be lots of macadamia nuts around and we still have to reach Whitianga! Never mind - we are having lots of fun and are now on the foreshore of Ohope Beach. Its Labour Weekend coming up and everybody's going to be on holiday! So with sand in my shoes and dried peas on the menu, here goes!
