First experiment with selective coloring in Picmonkey. Details to follow...
For those of you who wish to participate in the February Book Club and want to use the selective coloring effect in Picmonkey, here's one way you can do it:
1) Upload your color picture to 365.
2) In the sidebar on the right of your picture, choose "Edit in Picmonkey". Your picture will then be transferred over to the Picmonkey website.
3) On the basic page you can choose to sharpen your photo, improve the color or adjust the exposure. I had already done that with this shot in Ribbet, but it's just as easy to do it in Picmonkey. Apply your changes.
4) Select the "Effects" page by clicking on the "Effects" icon in the left hand column of processing options.
5) Select Black and White and convert your color shot to black and white.
6) Click on the paintbrush to "paint" the color back in on the areas you want to return to the original color. In this shot I chose to paint in the tea set. Apply your changes.
7) Add a frame if you so desire. Click on the frame icon in the left hand column of processing options. Choose your frame and apply.
8) Save picture. Picmonkey will return you to your 365 page. Don't be surprised if the picture does not appear right away. It will eventually appear as you processed it.
This is probably this easiest way to do selective coloring.
Thanks to all for the feedback. I remember a writing class in which we were given the assignment to write instructions on how to tie your shoe. It sounds pretty simple until you start to do it and then you second guess yourself all the way through! So I'm glad to see that some of you tried this and it worked!
@olivetreeann well, to be honest I didn't give it much thought but just after I watched all of them one after the other this came up. in fact this one is the guests are gone in a hurry - because the tea cups and pot are still warm....
@pitasmum Thanks Keri! I'm so glad it was helpful to you. When I started processing it was one big experiment! But I found that you could really ask questions here and no one looked down on you when they gave you the answer. It's what makes this place great.
@leestevo You're welcome Lee-Ann! @radiogirl My apologies for missing this question when you first posted it! Yes, you do have to upload to your album first, then switch over to Picmonkey, edit and then save the photo and switch back. @gratefulness You're welcome Sandi!
Ann, my local photography site is doing a theme a week here in crescent city, and I used your directions here to explain how to do selective coloring here. Guess I'm behind the times again though, because a lot of them were saying, "I just put my camera in dr,dative coloring mode and tell it which color to keep.
@pandorasecho Not really behind the times as only some cameras have that setting. My first Power Shot did not have it, but my newer one does. It's a custom setting but I don't think you have as much control over what colors are used and what gets left out. I'd rather have the creative control in my hands than have my camera dictate what colors will be used and which ones won't.
@jesperani Thanks Jennifer! This is really not a "serious" photo! Just putting some instructional stuff together for those who want to participate in the Feb. Book Club but don't know how to do selective coloring.

Also- you may want to check out these free on-line processing sites. That's what I use!
Ribbet.com
iPiccy.com
BeFunky.com
And I know there are others, but I don't know them all. However with Picmonkey being free to ace members you have a lot to work with on there too.
