Rainy Night in Nowhere by olivetreeann

Rainy Night in Nowhere

For the current Text to Image (Ai) challenge. We were given the prompts of city, rain, and night. We could add other words of our choice as well, so I added- gritty, man and umbrella. I then converted the image to black and white (my intent all along), softened the image and then put a little dose of fog in for good measure.
That’s a really cool picture! Is this AI?

@illinilass Yes- it's all Ai. Sometimes I use one of my own shots as a composite but not this time.

Atmospheric. Thanks for describing the process. How do you soften the image?
July 31st, 2024
I love this!

It's done a great job!! But I have a sneaky feeling that this end result is more to do with your input than the AI...

Nice result.

@kvphoto I soften the image by blurring it- "unsharpening" if that's a term instead of sharpening it. The photo editing program I use is called Smart Photo Editor and one of their black and white presets is called "Soft Black and White" (or something to that effect) and that's what I used here.

@robz You're very kind- but I have no images like this whatsoever- although I could "see" this in my mind when I described it to the "text to image" prompt.

@onewing You may have if you knew what to look for. Take a closer look at the signs on the buildings- they're just gobbledy-gook!

Many, many thanks my friends! Had I some components that would have fit with this image, I may have put them in, but this time around I really liked what the Ai version of Smart Photo Editor produced, so why ruin a good thing?!

Great creation

Excellent use of synthetic photography. The blurb on the signs as well as the extra bit of umbrella handle sticking out of the bottom of the man’s coat give the image away as AI, but your edits have added a great naturalness to the image.

@cocokinetic Thank you Karen- I toyed with erasing the handle. Decided to leave it at the last minute but then after I posted, wished I'd done it! Oh well... There was really nothing I could do about the signs though- at least not in my program. Thanks for the feedback- I appreciate it!

@swchappell Thank you Steve and thanks for the fav!

Superb. Doesn’t look like AI contributed!

@zilli Thank you Zilli- two clues: 1) odd angle of the umbrella handle which I was too lazy to fix, and 2) bizarre language on the store fronts. Other than that, I agree- it looks like an image from a camera.
