When we moved to this area 17 years ago from Melbourne, the majority of the houses along the waterfront were either two storey or single storey weatherboard houses or corrugated shacks like the property on the left. The area became more popular as a tourist destination people bought up the land, demolished the existing shack and built bigger and better houses. These two houses on the waterfront are an example of how times have changed. Many of the houses are still used as holiday homes.
The ramp which you can see in front of the house on the right goes down to the water so that the owner can pull up his boat right up to the property.
Can't help thinking though that some of the character of the area has gone now.
@joeyc Thanks Joey. The one on the left has more character and if it were painted it would look brilliant. Much more like a home than the one on the right.
@eyesmile I agree. The one on the left has character and the one on the right is just a holiday home, looks beautiful also, but not lived in very much. A very expensive way to spend a few weeks a year.
I've been coming up here for holidays to our old family 'shack' since the late 50's, a few years ago my brother demolished the 'shack' and built a 'more money than taste' monster, much to my disgust. Love the old shacks.
@winnedreamer Hope you have got a photo of the old shack Nic. Some of the new houses look okay, but some really drown out the old ones which have character.
