Scary Tree by onewing

Scary Tree

I have been in and out all day today and this afternoon it poured with rain. Haven't had time to take a photo so this is one I took the other evening down by the marina on our way to Nic's birthday dinner.

This is one of our very few winter trees in this area. I took this with flash to make it light up more. This photo reminded me of when I was a child - whenever we came home from any outing when it was dark, the car headlights used to shine on the winter trees, just like this shot and it used to scare the life out of me. It just looked so creepy. I used to think they were trying to get hold of me. I was probably only about 6 or 7 years old though.

Think I will go and get a cup of tea now, I'm traumatised. Ha ha!!! I'll get over it, who says I need therapy!

Yesterday was a beautiful day around 22 degrees C, but today somebody has flicked the winter switch and it is freezing cold. Time to light our wood burner fire.
very nice Composition Babs great capture

Spooky! I seem to remember my grandma telling me about ghost gum trees in Australia

This is creepy but oh so good! Love the composition and processing. Great job, Babs :)

A touch creepy yes but artistic and effective too Babs. Must be so strange to have trees with no leaves on when it's 22 degrees, although I suppose we do occasionally have that happen in spring before the new leaves have appeared.

we have a few of these trees in a row just down the road from me and I have only ever photographed them in the daylight. Love how you have lit this up with your flash, it does look eerie! Freezing here today, it 5.30 now and only 13 degrees!!!! I wish we had a wood burner as it is probably colder in than out and being in a new open plan house in the bush we aren't allowed them although all the older houses have them! Supposed to be sunny and 20 tomorrow.

Verrrry scarrrry! Great that your flash lit it so well.

I lived on a farm in the country so it was very dark outside (unlike the city) so when we came home in the car, it was only the car lights (as you described) shining up our long steep drive way, I completely understand your fear:)))) Enjoy that 22C tomorrow, we are having 12C :(

@gerry Thanks Gerry. Your nights are getting shorter and ours are getting longer, only a few weeks till spring now.

@steampowered Yes we do have ghost gum trees here. They are beautiful. Quite spooky when you get a lot of them together.
August 8th, 2013
@tillycarter Thanks Krista.
August 8th, 2013
@steampowered PS I think this is a London plane tree if I remember rightly. You don't expect that in Australia do you!

Great lighting!

Cool patterns in the branches.

@havrotb Thanks Barbara. It isn't in b&w, that is how it came out. I took it at night with flash. Just as is, or should I say SOOC! The only thing I did to it was crop it slightly.
I love thunder storms, did you get a photo of it?
August 8th, 2013
@gemsphotography Thanks Gemma and thanks for the follow too.
August 8th, 2013
@zenna Thanks Gayanne. I just used flash on it and didn't think it would come out as good as it did. I was pleased with it.
August 8th, 2013

August 9th, 2013
Scary, creepy, great composition! love it!
August 9th, 2013
looks like a halloween tree ...lol
August 9th, 2013
@christinehosey Thanks Christine. Perhaps it is a pommie thing! I come from Yorkshire originally. I probably say winter tree because we don't get many here. Most of our trees are native gum trees and they don't lose their leaves, so when we see one like this London plane tree with its bald branches what else would you call it but a winter tree. Makes sense to me and obviously you too. We must be the only sensible people in the world eh!!
August 9th, 2013
@eyesmile Good to make people smile I reckon. The one thing everyone needs in this world is a sense of humour. I've learnt that one. I'm not as dumb as I look, ha ha.
August 9th, 2013
@gypsy6 Thanks Deb. Showing my daughter scary trees Uh Oh! Hope you don't need therapy!!
August 10th, 2013
@sunraye Thanks Raye.
August 10th, 2013
@lafish It does look a bit like halloween. The problem is though that by October here this tree would have its leaves back because October is in spring in Australia. Can't use this for my halloween shot can I. Have to think up something else.
