While out for a walk this morning along the beach I thought I would take a photo of the mangroves in the water. I could smell smoke in the air and thought they may be burning off, ready for the bush fire season. I discovered later today though that there was in fact a bush fire at Salt Ash which is about 25 km away from where we live. If you look through the mangroves you will see a layer of smoke just above the trees on the horizon. That is the direction of Salt Ash. I believe that the fire was under control and all seems to be clear now. It is a bit early to have bush fires, but it has been so dry here for the last few months. We could be in for a long hot spring and summer. Fingers crossed, not too many bush fires though.
@gerry Thanks Gerry. Luckily because we live right next to the ocean the fires don't usuallly come too close. Only had two which were within 5 or 6 km in 17 years here.
@huvesaker Thanks Boo. Don't mind the heat, just not keen on the devastation of fires. Not too sure about the offer of ice though. Haven't seen ice for about 25 years. I can remember frozen windscreens when we lived in the UK. Don't get that here.
@tillycarter Thanks Krista. There have been some burn offs and that is what I thought was happening today, but this was a genuine fire. don't know if it was deliberately lit though. Not been too hot yet, so I suspect it may have been.
@joluise It is a bit early for fires. There have been some burn offs, but I suspect this was deliberately lit because it hasn't been too hot today, just very dry.
@yaorenliu Yes, mangroves grow in water,we don't get fires in the mangroves, but there is quite a bit of bush not too far from here and it is pretty dry at the moment, which is why fires are being deliberately lit.
@winnedreamer Thanks Nic. I loved the colour too and glad the blueness of the foreground showed up. the sun was just behind the hill and because of the lighting everywhere looked very blue early this morning. It was quite lovely down there.
@derekvickers@eyesmile@streats@paulaw@huvesaker@humphreyhippo@sbolden@ginnykoppenhol Sorry for the group reply again today, but I am off out with our walking group this morning. Thanks for all your lovely comments. It was the light in this shot which I liked. Just behind me on this section of the beach is a huge hill. (also volcanic) and the sun was obscured by the hill, which made the foreground of my photo have a blue tinge to it. It also provided a silhouette look to the mangroves.
I will check out your water and ice album Boo. Don't mind seeing photos of it. Don't want to see it in real life though. Haven't seen snow or ice for 25 years!!!
@lafish@witchyjacq@alia_801@joeyc@gamelee Thank you all, it is a very peaceful spot. I just love the early morning light along this stretch of the beach.
Yes Alia, we have had a couple of bushfires already in this area. So dry at the moment. Looks like we could be in for a long hot summer.
