This week's people picture is of a Buddhist nun, who is doing Tai Chi, at Nan Tien Temple.
When Nan Tien Temple was built at Wollongong, south of Sydney, at a cost of $30,000,000 Australian dollars, it was the largest Buddhist complex in the southern hemisphere. It was completed in 1995.
The temple is run by Taiwanese nuns who follow the tradition of Fo Kuang Shan Buddhism.
It is a beautiful place, very peaceful and well worth a visit if you are in the area.
This particular nun looks very young. I don't know what age they can join the order.
Maybe it is because I am getting old that makes people look young these days though, so it could be that she isn't as young as I think she is. Ha!
@derekvickers Thanks Derek. As this is one of my Friday people photos it was taken a while ago. If you look at my photo on the 11 April it shows Nan Tien Temple and the steps in front of it is where this nun was standing doing Tai Chi.
@angelat Thanks Angela. She does look sunburnt. This was taken in April and that particular day I believe was exceptionally warm for the time of year. This nun was teaching Tai Chi to a group of school children who were on a day trip to Nan Tien Temple. I believe they do Tai Chi every day so must get a lot of sun.
She is lovely! And she does look young. I agree though...youth has its own beauty! I never really knew that there are nuns as well as monks...Wonderful capture of her Babs!
@sbolden Thanks Scott. It isn't clear in this shot, but the lines behind the nun are steps. If you look at my photo on the 11 Apr you will see. This nun was teaching Tai Chi to some visiting school children who were standing in the square in front of her, just in front of the main temple.
@humphreyhippo Thanks

@mcmary Thanks Mary
@sunraye Thanks Raye, As I said to Scott, see the pic on the 11 April you will see where she is standing.
@eyesmile Thanks Gena. Nan Tien Temple was built totally for Buddhist women and there are only women nuns/monks who live there.
@tryingforsighs Thanks Rachel.
