I thought this triptych would be perfect for Valentine's Day.
Last weekend we went to Stanley Park as they had an open to the public day. These days Stanley Park is a venue for weddings and as such has lost all of its original qualities. The house still stands, but the inside has been totally gutted and modernised. It is now simply a hotel for wedding parties and all of its original decor has completely gone. Tomorrow I will post a photo of the house.
If you look at their website you see that they recommend the following and will arrange your every need for a wedding including a wedding designer, the 'Love' signs hire, photographer and video, caterers, marquee and furniture hire, wedding planners, celebrants, beauticians for nails, hair and make-up, beverages (wine), flowers, ceremony and reception music, invitations, cakes, wedding cars, jewellery hire, guest transport, bar hire and mobile coffee. You can even have your bra fitted personally by their qualified technicians. (David applied for that job 5 times but got rejected, ha ha only kidding).
Accommodation, short breaks for up to 15 guests is $2000 per night (minimum 5 nights) or $10,000 for 7 nights. I hope that is for the 15 guests and not per person.
I would imagine that you could have a wonderful wedding for around $100,000, a bargain.
The photos in the triptych are the 'Love' signs which are for hire and as I was photographing them I spotted this young girl with hearts tattooed on her knees. I had to ask her if I could take a photo of her knees. The girl was about 18 years old and I couldn't help wondering what she will look like when she is 70 years old with two hearts probably looking a bit worse for wear. Oh dear, each to their own I suppose.
@ethelperry I think I am definitely getting old. Just the thought of spending that amount of money on a wedding is beyond me. I can't help feeling that people want a wedding these days rather than a marriage.
@onewing I was thinking along the same lines...I even hoped my grandchildren would go climb their favourite mountain with young friends in tow, say their vows, then come down and have a good old bend up in one of our favourite restaurants.
Very interesting information! Funny joke about the bra fitting! I thought weddings had only gotten out of hand in the New York City area but apparently not. As they say, a wedding is only a day but a marriage is a lifetime! Great photos! Happy Valentine's Day!
Great triptych Babs. I agree with you about wedding /marriage some couples expend so much time. energy and money on the wedding that they have nothing left to start the rest of their lives with. Oh dear I really am getting old!!
Haha, great captures and collage. Hmm - that's a lot of money! I think that would look nicer on a mortgage for a house for some reason. Definitely an interesting tattoo & placement as well, guessing she's still yet to get them coloured in. Another interesting expensive exercise. ;)
Great collage Babs I'm intrigued by the middle image first why would an 18 year old have them done like that,
Possibly she intends to put her partners name in one heart and hers in the other,
Was she advertising the Tattoo shop, come on get a Tattoo for your wedding day and surprise your partner on the first night :)
I love the story and triptych. LOL at the image of the 70 year old tattooed knees. I was at Taize in France with my youth group some years ago when I saw a beautiful young woman with dolphins leaping over her pert bosom, like you I immediately visualised the elderly sag!!!
Lovely comp! Ha! Funny my thoughts also went to "what will these tattoos look like later on..and will they still be in place as intended".. As an older friend said to me remarking about a tat her niece received to her bosom, "will her chest be in her drawers".
Awesome triptych .... have to agree about the tattoos! my daughter had a beautiful wedding at a sensible price............she refused to follow the crowd with the 'essential wedding fashion items' and we made the invitations, the flowers for the table and many other bits ourselves and there was no debt to pay off for years!
@gigiflower Apparently not Sam. In one of the rooms at Stanley Park there were bras and pants all over one of the beds and a 'technician' ready to fit them too. I took a photo of it and must post it later.
@pcoulson Ha ha, lovely comment Peter. Not sure what she was selling. She was standing in a group of people next to the illuminated 'love' sign, so whether she was connected with that I am not sure. Hope she doesn't get her partners name printed inside the hearts, could be a bit dangerous if she has to cross them out and replace it with another name.
@ceilidh@jporcaro@quietpurplehaze Thanks. I just don't get tattoos, or expensive weddings. I must be getting very old.
A friend of ours said his ex wife had a dove tattooed on her stomach and it looks like a pelican now. ha ha.
@terryliv Thanks Terry. I saw a young chap in the shopping centre a while ago with a swastika tattooed on his forehead. Guess he was just making a statement. He looked a bit of a moron now so God knows what he will look like when he is 80.
@bella_ss I agree, well I hope she will cover them up anyway. David thought that when she got married she would probably put her name in the centre of one of the hearts and her husbands name in the centre of the other one. Could be right. Hope she doesn't have more than one partner though or she will have to cross the name out and replace it with the latest one.
Great captures...we just don't think about getting old at that age, do we? Seems just yesterday I was thinking how very far this age I am no seemed!! An eternity! And here it is!!
