As Friday is people day in my 365 project I thought I would post photos of some of the paintings we saw today at the Maitland Art Gallery Archibald Prize Exhibition.
The photo on the left is of the winner of the Archibald Prize and is a portrait of architect Penelope Seidler painted by artist Fiona Lowry. Also in the picture is my friend Elizabeth looking at the painting.
The top right painting is titled All that's good in me (self portrait as son Luca) a portrait of the artist's son Luca by Vincent Fantauzzo. This artwork won the People's Choice Award.
The bottom right painting is titled Proud by artist Jandamarra Cadd. The painting is of singer/songwriter Archie Roach and is done in the famous Aboriginal dot painting style. If you see this artwork close up you can see all the individual dots which make up the painting. I think this is a fantastic piece of artwork and personally the two paintings on the right were the winners for me.
I had to take all these shots with my phone because you aren't supposed to take photos in the art gallery. Managed not to get arrested though, ha ha.
Which would you select from the three paintings shown here?
Before I read the kadt oart I was wondering how you got the photos as there were no photos to be taken a few years ago when I was at the NSW Gakkery for the Archibald
I love the painting of the child and the innocence it shows in his eyes. I think the winner is almost a fabulous piece of art and would like to see the Proud painting close up. Nicely portrayed Babs.
Lovely presentation and capture Babs, you did well to capture this much detail covertly on your Phone, all great works but I prefer the one by Fiona Lowryon on the left:)
@ethelperry@beachdog Thank you both. The Archie Roach painting looks fabulous close up with all the dots. I just loved the interpretation of the Aboriginal flag in the background too.
@thistle Thanks Joyce. There were a lot of people there so I got away with taking photos with my phone I think. A woman asked me if it was okay to take photos as she said she thought they didn't allow it in the art gallery, I told her that I hadn't got arrested yet, so she took photos took. I hope they didn't catch her.
@hermann Thanks Sally, I find it difficult to decide between the two on the right too. Close up they are both fantastic and the photo here doesn't do them justice. The eyes on Luca look beautiful and the dot painting of Archie Roach and the interpretation of the Aboriginal flag in the background is stunning.
@derekvickers Thanks Derek, the exhibition was fantastic and what more can you ask for. A day at the gallery and lunch out with friends afterwards. A great day.
@annied Ha ha, thanks Annie, have you been on the giggle juice. It took me a couple of minutes to figure out what you had written, but I got there. I loved the 'NSW Gakkery'
I didn't get arrested and I saw a couple of other people taking photos too so I think they would have had trouble rounding up a few of us rebels.
@elaine55 Thanks Elaine, it is a fabulous exhibition and the Archie Roach painting looks wonderful close up. The photo here with my phone doesn't do it justice.
I love the painting of Luca too, his eyes are amazing.
