Calamari for lunch by onewing

Calamari for lunch

Thanks to everyone for the amazing response to yesterday's photo of Fallen Rainbow and for getting it on the TP and the PP.

The rain cleared up today and the sun has shone for the first day of winter, but it has gone pretty chilly. The temperature only reached 16 degrees C today (60f). Managed to get all the washing dry though because it was quite windy.

I was walking along the jetty and a young chap had just caught this squid. So I guess calamari was on the menu for lunch in his house today.
They are such weird looking beasts. Cool shot though

June 1st, 2015
Good shot. When I see the eye of a creature like that , I almost need to become a vegetarian.
June 1st, 2015
You ugly little squid.
I'll bet your mother thought you were a pretty kid.
He doesn't look to pleased with your suggestion for dinner Babs
June 1st, 2015
that looks so sad. Are squid as smart as octopus?
June 1st, 2015
Great capture nice detail and colour Babs, start of summer here today rain forecast and a high of 14 degrees C, with May being one of the wettest and coldest on record, hope June gets better quickly, lol:)
June 1st, 2015
Great capture. Ugly creature don't think I'll be ordering calamari too soon after seeing this shot :-)
June 1st, 2015
Terrific capture :)
June 1st, 2015
Congratulations on the PP yesterday. It was a gorgeous image so I'm not surprised. I wonder if the squid made it home or became bait for a bigger and better prize.
June 1st, 2015
Sam
He is keeping his eye on you ;)
June 1st, 2015
The eye is interesting Babs, nice detail :)
June 1st, 2015
@ubobohobo He made it home Margaret. The young chap who caught it didn't have anything to carry it home in and luckily I happened to have a plastic bag in my camera bag and I gave it to him.
June 1st, 2015
Nice shot!
June 1st, 2015
Oh I am always torn when I see squid octopus and calamari caught - I love to eat them but I also love them in the ocean - especially the gorgeous calamari
June 1st, 2015
@salza I agree, they are weird looking.
June 1st, 2015
@chimfa They sure do Jane. I just love calamari with Cajun seasoning.
June 1st, 2015
@basqgirl Thanks Amy.
June 1st, 2015
@mrsrcg Calamari is delicious, you can't beat Cajun calamari and a restaurant in Fingal Bay does the best calamari in Australia.
June 1st, 2015
@beryl I agree Beryl, but it tastes delicious when you can't recognise it any more.
June 1st, 2015
@julzmaioro Ooh Julia I will be round to your place. I love calamari.
June 1st, 2015
@sioux It tastes delicious Sue.
June 1st, 2015
@ethelperry I suppose it is a bit off putting when you have just caught it, but we don't think too much when we see chickens and lambs in fields etc so I suppose we have to adopt the same attitude to sea creatures too.
June 1st, 2015
@terryliv Not the prettiest of souls are they.
June 1st, 2015
@pusspup This one wasn't smart that's for sure or it wouldn't have got caught.
June 1st, 2015
@pcoulson Thanks Peter, your summer sounds about as cold as our winter. You will have to change hemispheres.
June 1st, 2015
@bizziebeeme Luckily it doesn't look like this once it is on the plate. Tastes delicious though.
June 1st, 2015
@gilbertwood Thanks Denise.
June 1st, 2015
@gigiflower He is Sam, but not for long. The chap who caught him whisked him away once I gave him a plastic bag to put the squid in because he had nothing to carry him home in.
June 1st, 2015
@hermann Thanks Sally. Never seen a squid so close before.
June 1st, 2015
I agree, Babs and our whole culture depends on producing and eating other creatures.
June 1st, 2015
Hope you are getting on top of your convalescence.
June 1st, 2015
@annied Never seen one this close before. I love to eat calamari it is delicious.
June 1st, 2015

June 1st, 2015
@ethelperry Thanks Ethel I am fine again now. Much better now I am minus my gall bladder. It really caused lots of problems. Luckily I heal quickly and I'm up and running again now.
June 1st, 2015
What an ugly fellow. Still it's not his fault but I don't like the way he's looking at me!
June 1st, 2015
Yum, calamari is one of my favourite foods. The start of winter was rather chilly here too.
June 1st, 2015
Neat shot, details
June 1st, 2015
So cool to see -- I've never seen one up close before. Wow -- it looks a lot slimier than I'd expected.
June 1st, 2015
Yikes. He is kind of scary looking. Excellent shot, though. Actually, he is cool looking.
June 1st, 2015

June 1st, 2015
He is scary looking! Love the com and POV, agree with Hazel, not sure about the eye!! LOL
June 1st, 2015
A strange creature! It hasn't been anywhere near 16 degrees here for the last 3 days - and it's supposed to be summer!

I like calamaris but I doubt I would like to catch the full item !

June 1st, 2015
Fascinating
June 1st, 2015
Is that an eye peeking out from this creature? It gives me shivers. :)
June 1st, 2015
Nice shot. About the only time I have squid is when we are out for dinner as Melody is not much for seafood
June 2nd, 2015
@thistle that eye is quite menacing isn't it.
June 2nd, 2015
@karlow75 I'm with you Kane. You can get the best calamari ever at a restaurant in Fingal Bay. It is so tender and not at all rubbery.
June 2nd, 2015
@seattlite @taffy @mittens @quietpurplehaze @susanalena I've never seen one close up before either. Looks so different when it is covered in Cajun seasoning. Delicious.
June 2nd, 2015
@dolphin Thanks Molly. Sunny here today but still chilly, well chilly for us softies in Australia.
June 2nd, 2015
@mbmomentsintime I'm with you Maurice. Not sure I could catch it and then eat it, but I do love calamari rings.
June 2nd, 2015
@kwiksilver @shailestha Thanks. the eye is scary isn't it.
June 2nd, 2015
@happypat Thanks Pat. The best calamari in Australia is at Fingal Bay. Not at all rubbery like some calamari rings, but so tender and covered in Cajun seasoning, delicious.
I spoke to my sister yesterday in Lancashire and she is complaining about the cold too. What happened to summer.
June 2nd, 2015
@yaorenliu I didn't catch it, I just happened to be there when it was caught by a young chap who was on the jetty.
