No time for photos today. Had a busy day so far. It is my birthday and we are out for dinner tonight, so all go here at the moment.
A couple of weeks ago I posted a photo of David with one of his projects, namely "Tom's engine".
Well here is another of David's projects. I didn't take these photos, this is all David's work, I just put the six photos together into a collage, so I thought I would share some of David's photography with you.
We have a friend who is a retired mining engineer and he has lived all over the world with his job. One of his hobbies has been to collect minerals from all over the world and he has a super collection.
David had the idea a while ago of photographing some of his friends collection and here is a sample of some of the photos he took. All together I think he took about 100 or so different mineral photos and put them in a photo book for his friend. He was thrilled with the result.
They are now putting together a DVD of the photos along with an oral commentary of each of the samples.
This is a selection of six of my favourite examples. Very difficult to pick six from such a fabulous collection believe me.
Firstly Happy Birthday Babs, have a lovely evening!!
What a great collection and fab pics, my girls used to collect rocks and magazines about them when they were little. My husband's degree was Geology, now he is a Geotechnical Engineer.
A very happy birthday Babs......hope you had a fabulous day with no cooking all! The world is a wonderful source of these stunning minerals....the colour, density & variety of all these samples.......it's a subject you would never know a half of.
Would love a copy of the cd! I'm still collecting stones. None of them are like this though. If you look back at the beginning of my 365 you'll see one of the "dishes" I keep them in. We used to have a stone polisher. Now 2 of the 3 granddaughters are collecting. We also have a friend who's a geologist. She's fascinating to go on walks with! Fantastic photos Dave. FAV in a big way.
Will definitely show this to my Geologist son - he's loved 'rocks' since he was little! Lovely selection of colours, sounds like such a worthwhile project.
@elaine55 Thanks Elaine. It was a real labour of love for David photographing his friends mineral collection. David is very interested in geology too and everywhere we live we get a geological map of the area, plus a few rock samples along the way as well.
Happy Birthday Babs! We also know a mining engineer with a huge collection of rocks. He was in China with us for 2 years, and was always disappearing off to look for more. These are really impressive rocks you have chosen.
@888rachel@fntngrma@eyesmile@cruiser@pixiemac Thanks so much for your birthday wishes. I had a great day. In fact it has been rather a good week. I think I have only had to cook dinner one day this week.
David said glad you liked his photos. The photo book that he put together for his friend has turned out really well too. He has a fantastic collection of minerals.
I love this collage, it reminded me my trip many years ago to British Museum, the collection of the minerals are just beautiful. Your friend 100+ collections must be so fascinating to look at.
Fabulous collection, great colours and textures
These look stunning. It must be an amazing collection. the colours are stunning.

I love the pyrite - looks like some kind of confectionary. Neat images.
Glad you liked David's photos. It was a real labour of love for him and the finished product along with the photo book is amazing.
sorry I am a bit behind with 365 this week, life has been so hectic. Nothing changes there then. ha ha.
I am doing very well with not having to cook dinner this week. We were out on Saturday night with friends after going to the theatre, Sunday was our "Horses Birthday Party" with about 20 of us going for a Greek mezze. Yesterday was my birthday dinner. We are out on Thursday as it is trivia night at the pub, so dinner first there. Saturday we are at Cessnock for the day and Sunday we are at a party at a friend's house.
Superb collage, David had got the lighting spot on.
