The top picture here is showing the pilot arriving on board to steer us out of Picton and the bottom picture is of the pilot, on the bridge, manoeuvring the cruise ship through the Sounds at Picton to the open sea.
The chap on the right of the picture is the pilot captain, the chap in the centre is our captain and I don't know who the chap on the left is. Maybe the chief engineer or the first officer. Maybe somebody reading this can enlighten me.
@pcoulson Ha ha. When I took the top picture I was on deck and on the second one I was on the balcony of our stateroom. The bridge goes right across the front of the ship and juts out both sides too which is why I could see them from our cabin
@shirleybankfarm Pilots don't come on board at all ports. It is just that certain ports are difficult to navigate and the size of the ship is a deciding factor too. Queen Charlotte Sound and the Tory Channel has pilots for ships over 350 GT I believe.
