I took this photo a couple of days ago at Corlette Point. I just love the patterns on the rocks.
These rocks were formed 350 million years ago when this area was near the south pole and still attached to Antarctica.
There was a massive volcano about 8 miles to the east and the rocks mostly consist of ignimbrite rocks. Ignimbrite is a volcanic rock consisting essentially of pumice fragments, formed by the consolidation of material deposited by pyroclastic flows.
