The Champagne Cork by onewing

The Champagne Cork

As promised here is a photo of the building that was the reflection in yesterday's photo.

Known by many Novocastrians as The Roundhouse or The Champagne Cork, this building was constructed to accommodate the various departments of Newcastle City Council in 1977 as the City Hall could no longer accommodate the growing workforce. It continues to support the city as Newcastle City Council Administration Centre.

Marnie has just informed me that my photo Optical Illusion has made it to the TT. Thanks so much to everyone who voted for it.
very cool building

Not unlike the 'Beehive' in Wellington...

I actually think that building is ugly although it did provide good reflections. Congratulations on your TT spot.

That is quite a building, I never knew Newcastle had such interesting architecture

That name is very appropriate. Very nice architectural shot, Babs:)

I can see where it gets its name!

Very curious looking building.

I prefer the reflections - more mysterious! Well done for TT!

Super building, nicely taken...fav

How nice that it is a rather unusual shape! Makes it interesting to see. I never would have guessed from the reflections in yesterdays pic that the building was like this, so I find it really nice to see. I like the patterns of all the windows too... I can't help but notice that huge pink plant pot on the parking area and what is the colourful near by it Babs?

A very unusual building showing great vision for a modern building style!
August 28th, 2016
Great shot of this nice building with an interesting architecture

Thank you for showing us the Champagne cork. It is a most apt comparison. Interesting.

How extraordinary. I thought our council upside-down pyramid was odd, this one's up there too.

Very strange looking building. It brings to mind the Beehive in Wellington.

What a cool building! Nice shot.

A interesting building
August 29th, 2016
@julzmaioro I Googled the building you mentioned and there are similarities.
August 29th, 2016
@kjarn Thanks Kathy. I don't mind the look of this building, it looks better than some of the high rises that are appearing all over the centre of Newcastle at the moment.
August 29th, 2016
@beryl Yes Beryl, that could be some party couldn't it with a giant champagne bottle.

I quite like this building, it is much nicer than some of the rather boring high rises that are appearing all over the centre of Newcastle at the moment.
Thanks also for your congrats on my picture getting on the TT. I seem to have been on a bit of a roll at the moment. Downhill from now on no doubt.

@jodies Newcastle has some fabulous old buildings and I suspect that quite a few of them will be demolished before too long to give way to rather ugly high rises that are appearing all over the centre of Newcastle.

@stephanies Thanks Stephanie. The pink plant pot has a tree planted in it, but I am not sure what the other object is. In this square there are lots of trendy looking benches, cafes and maybe it is a bench. I will have to check it out next time I am in Newcastle.

@golftragic You should see some of the creations they are coming up with at the moment. Lots of rather boring high rises with no character at all so this one is probably going to end up one of the better buildings. A lot of the old Newcastle historical buildings are disappearing.

@onewing Funny that, sounds very familiar. The Huns and Goths are still with us.
August 29th, 2016
Really interesting building and great capture
