Female Koel by onewing

Female Koel

Yesterday I posted a photo of a male koel and today here is a shot of his missus.

They are very wary of coming into the garden because the kookaburras chase them off.

Been out all day today so will try and catch up later this evening.

Took my friend Jo to the railway station for her journey home early this morning and then we have been out with the walking group and lunch the rest of the day.

She looks so different from her male partner.

I think she is prettier than her husband, a softer browner variety, you must be thrilled to have a pair visit! Good stuff with all your walking, my nurse would be pleased with you!

Sounds like you are living life to the full. I love the patterns on the female bird.

I am trying to catch up today. Had a busy few days, nothing changes there though.
I am so pleased that the koel has found a mate this year. They turn up around this time of year and sit in the trees in our garden trying to attract a mate with their distinctive call. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoBlkaGJk4s
As the weeks go by and they still haven't found a mate the call gets louder and louder. Nearly drives us mad. Luckily they have found each other early this year so they have gone quiet now.
