CPH 1 'Tin Hare' by onewing

CPH 1 'Tin Hare'

I am posting photos taken at the Maitland Steamfest at the moment and this is another of the vintage trains running on the day.

CPH rail motors began service on country New South Wales rail lines in1923 and lasted well into the mid 1980's. 'Tin Hare' is the nickname given to the wooden bodied rail cars in reference to the fast running mechanical hares on greyhound tracks. Today there are only approximately 10 CPH rail motors in running condition throughout NSW and the ACT. CHP1 is operated by The Rail Motor society of Paterson.

Unusual engine. Haven't ever seen one like this.

Cute train. I particularly like the lights on top - they look like eyes peering ahead.

Very nice :) There are few steam railways near to me I haven't visited one since doing 365 but I can feel a trip coming on :)

Quintessential US or Australia with that fan on the front at the base and the railings on top. We don't have anything like that in our history in England, our steam trains looked so different. Beautiful to see. I love the variety.

@casablanca You probably wouldn't have much need for a kangaroo catcher on the front of the trains in the UK.

Is that what they are for? Ha ha, excellent! I wonder what the equivalent is for in the US then? I shall go and investigate!

looks like you had a great day to see all these motors. This one is unlike any I have seen before.
