Hi Hazel @quietpurplehaze your book has arrived. I am really looking forward to reading it.
The timing is perfect, I have just finished reading a book written by another friend of mine and today your book arrived.
I have made myself a cuppa and I am going to sit down for a while before getting dinner ready and have a bit of a read.
If any of you on 365 follow Hazel you will have read extracts from her Dad's PoW diaries at various times. Finally she has managed to get the diaries published and if anyone is interested you can buy a copy on Amazon. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Till-We-Meet-Again-Gunner/dp/154404870X#
There you go Hazel another plug for your book. Hope it is a great success.
Thanks Babs. It sounds like a fascinating read. We visited a pow camp on holiday recently but most of the text was in German. It would be good to hear the story from the inside.
Thanks Babs for the heads up on this.. love the image.. @quietpurplehaze i have literally just ordered a copy of your book via the link kindly provided by Babs @onewing.. i do hope it is a success for you..
What a great image Babs just has everything to convey a story, its fascinating and compelling read Babs I could not put it down, all credit to Hazel @quietpurplehaze at fulfilling her late fathers wishes and getting it published
Firstly, thank you, Babs, for the mention - you are a star!
Thank you so much everyone for your interest in my dad's diaries.
Nobody so far has said that they are too disturbing to read. Btw at home and in the family we always called them 'diaries' not 'diary' because my dad wrote them in 3 exercise books (equivalent of the French 'un cahier') each carefully covered with brown paper. He managed to buy these in an Italian PoW camp with a small amount of 'camp money' allocated to the prisoners.
The main feedback I have received so far is that the diaries are 'gripping' and we now have two 5-star reviews on Amazon.
The publisher is Ian Douglas, a fellow member of Winchester U3A photography group to whom I will always be hugely grateful.
How wonderful and brave of Hazel to get her dad's poignant record of his time in the war . I am sure you will enjoy the read may it be harrowing at times !
I've just checked that out. My hubby was in the RA and is a passionate military historian too. I think I will get him a copy and save it for Christmas. Beautiful photo too.
Thanks, Beryl, for your comment. The subject is very familiar to me so it's hard to say how difficult (or otherwise) it is to read. My bravery was years ago when I transcribed my dad's written diary and word processed it. I did actually become ill and land in hospital with a bipolar episode (so it was something like blood sweat and tears!!!) It's been great to find a publisher after all this time.
@jorlam I am sure you will enjoy the book Jorlam. It makes the story so much more interesting when you know the people involved. I have just finished reading a book written by a friend of mine here in Australia and although her book was a novel it did have a lot of autobiographical sections to the story.
@quietpurplehaze I started reading the book yesterday and when I went to bed I read until my eyes crossed. Well done for all your effort in getting it published. I am sure your Dad will be so proud of you.

If my dad could know that you are getting a copy of his diary for your husband for Christmas, he would be absolutely chuffed to bits!
