Waiting for the Flood by onewing

Waiting for the Flood

Thanks so much for your lovely comments and favs for yesterday's Frangipani Ball photo.

We have been out all day today in Maitland and we are out again tonight so this is a quick post. I will try and catch up later this evening.

As we were driving past this house in Maitland today I thought it made an interesting photo opportunity.

Parts of Maitland are on quite low ground and tend to flood easy. At least the owner of this house thought ahead.
Wow, it’s certainly up high!

Clearly they have a head for heights!,

They look well prepared but the way the house is perched on those stilts looks a bit precarious!

It must give them a nice view too 😉

He certainly made sure his house won't flood. I bet he has a boat in the garage just in case, too.

Interesting how it is sitting there on those concrete piers - makes me a bit nervous.

Lovely home, I grew up in a home like this in Brisbane......

Looks good against the blue sky. Is the rope to stop it floating away?

Great exercise up and down the stairs :)

The piers the house is sitting on are big and strong looking. I don’t think this house will budge in a storm. The stairs on the other hand might very well wash away. We have many homes on stilts in our coastal areas, they are flimsy compared to these great stilts!

Gosh looks like the stumps arent properly under the house. Interesti g pic

Lovely shot, Babs.

It's an interesting house Babs. It looks like they built a study framework and platform, then plonked the house on top!

Clever, and they'll get a great view, no snakes under the house either :)
March 25th, 2018
Wow...That is some preparation. Neat shot

Good idea. The house looks tenuous on those corner stilts but perhaps that's allows for give.

Great idea. Flood damage is so devastating.

An interesting property.

A great idea, nicely captured

Brilliant pre planning! Great view too!

Great shot

Interesting. Quite some height on those pillars, but the house looks strange to be resting on so little of the outside pillars.
March 25th, 2018
Wow they look safe way up there!
Great find!

It looks like a Queenslander now. Nice airflow underneath, which is great in summer, but perhaps not winter.

Great find and shot! It's a good idea to be ready for flooding. As Lou Ann mentioned in her comment, this practice of building homes on stilts is quite common in our Texas Gulf Coast areas. :-)

Most of our houses along the coast are built this way too. Sometimes it helps, but sometimes not. They keep the house looking very nice. Good catch!
March 26th, 2018
Hopefully there is no flooding.

Lee
I think they put the post too far apart, the house is just about sitting on the end ones. =) A house that looks ready for any flood. Good shot.

Looks like a Queenslander but the placement on the pylons looks a bit odd
