Yesterday I was just about to explain what Steampunk actually was when I noticed that Peter @pcoulson had already done it for me.
Peter explained it so eloquently that I have copied his comments here today.
'Steampunk, started out as a science-fiction sub-genre in the 1970s. Its fundamental inspirations go all the way back to 19th century Victorian writers, such as Jules Verne (author of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea) and H.G. Wells (author of The Time Machine).
Steampunk fashion is a mixture of the Victorian era's romantic view of science in literature and elements from the Industrial Revolution in Europe during the 1800s consists of clothing, hairstyling, jewelry, body modification and make-up, hope the above helps explains this sub culture, I don't mind photographing them but would not dress up like they do:)'
Lovely collage full of interest and colour Babs must have been a brilliant event, thanks for the recognition that's what the 365 project is all about every days a school day, lol:)
We have steam punk here in my town in NZ - called the Steam Punk capital. But more and more people are getting on this wagon! Its particularly nice seeing the imagination and also couples!
@happysnaps Maybe take a trip to Goulburn next year Valerie or there could be a steampunk festival in Queensland.
@maggiemae I've see that there are a few festivals in New Zealand. I think Carole @yorkshirekiwi is going to one this weekend and she is dressing up too. Look forward to see what she will be wearing.
