Director's Residence - Mount Stromlo

Another collage that Marnie may be interested in.

This is a collage of the Director's Residence at Mount Stromlo. It was severely damaged in the 2003 Canberra bushfire. As you can see the outside of the building has been restored to its former glory but the inside has just been stabilized so that people can visit and watch videos of the history of the building, the effects of the fire and restoration process.

It is a sad but interesting place to visit.

It looks so good from the outside, a bit of a shame if they aren't going to restore the interior.

How interesting they have made a lovely job of the exterior, looked at the link how building regulations have changed since the original construction photograph, interesting collage beautifully presented and captured Babs:)

What a shame - I did know of the fire but didn't even know there was a director's residence (I used to live in Canberra years ago). We'll be going through Canberra in March - maybe I'll visit if there is time. You have put together a nice little visual story.

You would never think the inside wasn’t just perfect & liveable, fire has a lot to answer for! Glad they saved it & so interesting to tell it’s story!

Such an interesting collage, it is a shame when beautiful old buildings like this are lost, hopefully one day some one will restore the interior.

Interesting place- I hope they are able to restore everything to its condition before the bushfire. At least people can still come and learn about what the building was like when it was first built. Good collage!

@kwind @haskar @rjb71 @Dawn @inthecloud5 @peterday @casablanca @louannwarren @ludwigsdiana @merrelyn @mittens @seattlite @bkbinthecity @radiogirl @happypat @olivetreeann @golftragic Thanks. It was interesting and I would have liked to have spent longer there, but we were short on time because we were on our way to the arboretum too before returning home.

@bella_ss @beryl @pcoulson @jodies @henrir Thanks. They can't restore the interior any more than they have already because the fire caused so much damage and it is only able to be made structurally sound and used as an historical site.
