Hinton Bridge by onewing

Hinton Bridge

No photos today because I went to my keep fit class this morning and then out for a belated birthday lunch with some girlie friends.

I thought I would post another photo of Hinton Bridge following on from yesterday's shot of the underside of the same bridge.

Hinton Bridge is an Allan timber truss road bridge and it is one of only three lift bridges in the Hunter region, which in the past accommodated river steamers that travelled the Hunter River system. It was built in 1900.

Great capture of this beautiful bridge with all the lovely reflections.

Glad you came out of the fit class with all guns firing! This bridge looks very like a meccano construction!

Wonderful flat water, perfect for a reflection shot!

Is that a hydraulic lit system then that raises the middle section to let the steamers through? A great bridge design and very attractively shot with equal interest in the reflection and the bridge itself.

I really like the seamless reflections under the bridge - and everything else of course! :)

@helenhall I think it operates by a winding system with counterweights on each of the four uprights.

@haskar Not sure if it is still operational but there was a lot of work done on it a while ago.

Sorry for the late reply again but still short on time at the moment.

The weather has gone quite chilly and windy today and I gather it will carry on like this for a couple more days. Glad it is almost the end of winter.

Luckily I have got a quiet weekend so should be able to catch up on your photos then.

@maggiemae I agree, it does look like Meccano.

I do love bridges - I must head that way when I am next in the area - Hinton and Tocal hahaha
