So many of the old buildings in the centre of Newcastle are being demolished to make way for high rise apartments so it is so nice to see some of old Newcastle still surviving.
What a great old building! Like the light too!

Lovely architecture beautifully presented in b&w tones Babs, getting planning permission to demolish classic buildings is almost impossible in the UK unless in a unsafe/dangerous condition, most have to keep the facade with redesign internally allowed:)

A lovely building with a story to tell no doubt.

Beautiful building, Enjoy while it lasts. We have lost many wonderful buildings because of a building boom we have been having these last years.

Wonderful old building

Great shot. Nice in black and white.

I remember we all thought the late Jack Munday was mad when he successfully saved the old buildings in Sydney 50 years ago.

I do wish more developers would renovate the old instead of demolishing it. It is nice to see some history still standing
November 24th, 2020
I hope they find a good use for some of the old buildings. This one looks well worth saving

@johnfalconer quite a lot have disappeared in the centre of Newcastle but some are now being saved. Of course they lost a lot in the 1989 earthquake.

@k9photo Thanks for the link Kate. I did know that this building was heritage listed but it took a lot of effort to achieve that.

@edorreandresen @pusspup @jeneurell @kjarn @ludwigsdiana @jamibann @maggiemae @casablanca @wakelys @sangwann @fayefaye @johnfalconer @abhijit @dutchothotmailcom @mittens @fishers @theredcamera @loweygrace @seattlite @happypat @bkbinthecity @craftymeg @yaorenliu @carolmw @thistle01 @gosia @haskar @aikiuser @busylady @helenhall @pyrrhula @cocobella @olivetreeann @carole_sandford Thanks, as Kate said this building is now heritage listed but it was a bit of a fight to save it. Unfortunately the developers have deep pockets and usually win in the fight between saving the old and building new high rise buildings.

@annied I love going to Newcastle, there is so much to photograph there. I think you would need more than one visit, so much to see.

@pcoulson If only it was as difficult to remove old buildings here. I have seen so many old buildings disappear and the history of a place lost thanks to the deep pockets of developers.

I was curious about the building so I looked it up.. happy to see that the CityCouncil owns it, so no demolishing for this one. Great shot.
