Round the Headland by onewing

Round the Headland

This morning started off quite chilly and grey. I really thought we would get some rain as I walked round the headland, but as the day continued the weather improved and we now have glorious sunshine. Pity really because we really need some rain.

When we first moved to New South Wales from Victoria 24 years ago all the houses along this stretch of the waterfront were just fishing shacks like the two blue houses in the bottom left picture, but as time went on the cost of land rose and the old shacks gave way to the gin palaces you see in the bottom right picture.

Although I do like some of the new houses it is sad to see the history of this area disappearing.

The little blue shacks are still standing proud at the moment, but I do wonder how long it will be before someone buys this patch of land and the shacks will disappear.
I like the blue houses, but can see that they might be going in the future... The other house looks enormous!

Two spectrum's of beach houses, prefer the little blue one

Happening everywhere - lakes and sea fronts! Gone are the tiny one bedroom shacks where you all had to get on with others, no TV, no proper beds etc.

I like both for different reasons but I think you are right that the little shacks days are numbered

Lovely collage of the changing times. Our weather seems like your weather, very cold and grey atm. I sure hope that the sun comes out here too ;-)

I always wonder how long it will be before the mansions take over

Neat set of images. Thanks for sharing.

Nice photos. Fingers crossed the charming blue stands "tall" for years to come!

I do like the blue shack...but...time brings change whether we like or not...

Lovely collage of the end of the spectrum - the blue cosy and homely looking blue abode , to the grand expensive looking mansion !

Oh my, that gin palace is amazing! Here we have areas where people tear down perfectly good homes and build huge mansions on the small lots. They do this because they want to live in certain areas.

Lovely collage telling the story well Babs, such a shame to loose the history of an area, must say I like some of the modern one off designs:)

Lovely collage!

"Progress" tends to erase history as easy as the sun erases the darkness. Sadly I think that once one "gin palace" goes up more people of the same mindset move in and then the little shacks become "eyesores" even though they're perfectly fine. A similar thing is happening around here where people are cutting down trees because they want a grass lawn. I always want to say to them, "Why didn't you just stay where every house has a grass lawn instead of coming out to the forest and ruining the environment by cutting down the trees?!" Well, enough of my soap box- good collage!

Great collage. Things do seem to change all the time.

A lovely collection of shots, and interesting changes in building style. I definitely prefer the old.

The blue house looks so much more friendly and inviting.

It is a shame that those older buildings are totally disappearing. Great shots.

Great collage

So sad that the history is disappearing. I'd need a sat nav to find my way round it!

A super collage. These changes are happening everywhere, sometimes not for the better

A interesting history and collage, I do like the old one. It’s more cosy!

Great shots and narrative, it is always sad to see those older houses with much history and character disappear.
December 12th, 2020
Those new homes are so very modern.
December 12th, 2020
The beach is so beautiful - there’s no doubt there will be more folks wanting to live there!
December 12th, 2020
it's suddenly very cold for summer!

Nice demonstration of “progress”. Shack to palace!

We pass and our world passes by.

wow, what a contrast

It’s sad to see these characterful old houses disappear & money takes precedence over charm. You see it when we visit NZ on the coast especially...old beach houses replaced but amazing modern structures....the old ones left look really out of place along side but I love the old corrugated roof places.

The shacks are great. People seem to want too much these days. It's spoiling our world.

What a shame that your history is likely to disappear. I hope the pretty blue shacks will remain

A great collage of all those nice pic.`s showing the chances.

Unfortunately it's happening everywhere. I used to be an Real Estate Agent and can tell stories.
With luck the little blue house will stay for a long time.

When we moved here all the houses along this stretch of waterfront were weekender shacks, but now the blue houses are the only ones left. All been replaced with the new version of 'weekender' houses. Most of the huge properties are empty for most of the year and owned by people who live most of the time in Sydney and just come up here for the weekend or holidays.

Wow, what a contrast between the historical and the current. Sad to see the old disappearing and that there isn't a way of incorporating them into the newer structures.
