I had to look this tiny flower up in my wild flower book and I think this is Agrimony otherwise known as Fairy's wand or Aaron's rod. It is growing all along the edges of the path through the woods and these spikes of tiny yellow flowers look so pretty in the grasses.
I was amused to read that it was held to be a remedy against snake-bite, poor sight, loss of memory and liver complaints. An infusion produced from the leaves is still used as a stimulating alternative to tea. The plant was once believed to be associated with magic - hence the name Fairy's wand or rod.
A wild flower book...that takes me back I think I remember rightly....The Observers Book of Wild Flowers. We used to read this Observer book series avidly.
@happypat I have a set of three books Pat - Readers Digest Book of Wild Flowers, Birds of Great Britain and Trees and Shrubs of Great Britain. Not sure where I got them but I have had them for many many years! Lovely bound books and very useful I must say. Too heavy to carry round so I use a photo for identification. Lots of useful information!
