In Grand Parade stands a bronze statue of Lord Nelson on granite base. The monument is near the place on the beach where Nelson embarked for HMS Victory on 14 September 1805. He has his back to the 11th century Royal Garrison Church (known as Domus Dei and where one of the choir stalls is dedicated to him) http://365project.org/quietpurplehaze/add-ins/2012-07-27
and he can see over the Saluting Platform to the entrance of the harbour.
Its not a pretentious place as some historical sites have become. I like the simplicity and the colours. The perfect blue sky plays harmony for the light colours. I'm not sure about your intentions for including the ferry?
It's lovely to hear about the history of places :-)
Lovely shot of the church ... and ferries are VERY important if you live on an island (speaking personally as an islander!)
@creativeamateur@doblaine@armorel@rosiekind Thank you all for your enthusiastic and encouraging comments. As I've said before, I'm learning as much as anyone on 365 because I need to get my facts correct to put in the text to accompany photos. That said, I should explain that the ferry pictured runs between Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight!
