Yeah, good question. We have three of these. They all work, but this is a home, not a museum.
(I now have a new tag!)
The analog one in front (Picco Quartz) was given me by a grandmother. She passed away in 1991, so this thing has survived many, many trips and moves halfway across the country. Frugal person that I am, I would always remove the battery (one of those “disk batteries”) and maneuver it into the case while I folded the case closed. It usually took me 3–6 jiggles to coax the battery into the case without breaking the hinges of the case.
I always admired the clever “Twist-n-Stand” feature of the Sharper Image model (Model CH001), but it takes two CR2450 batteries. Offered on ebay for “$35 or best offer.” $35? Really? Good luck with that.
The La Crosse Technology Radio-controlled Travel Alarm Clock (WT‑2165) had the advantage of operating on one common battery (AA).
