today is the second day of Toronto Botanical Garden's annual event 'through the gardem gate' featuring the resplendent gardens of rosedale, the toney community of toronto. i visited 9 gardens yesterday and got impressed by only two, one overwhelmingly so.
i wanted to see a real garden, not one that smells of money and power - i saw that yesterday and wowed by it, i gushed over it, but it was not what i was hoping to see. i wanted to see a garden that teemed with glorious greens and beautiful colours, smartly laid out and which could be truly enjoyed by us onlookers as much as it was being enjoyed by its owners.
so, i took in the second day's tours feeling jaded. i mean, to me all those gardens were just for show, and most of them were simply so-so. you've seen one garden, you've seen them all. they were not what i expected from people with so much wealth.
at the first house, er...sorry, mansion that i visited, as i walked the path that led to the garden proper, i passed by this elegant bronze statue of a young girl carrying a vessel, the water coming out of the vessel's spout. the brochure indicated she's dreaming, but i looked at her and to me she looked tired just by the way her head was hanging down. tired just like how i felt. yes, there was a beautiful circular pool. yes, rose bushes lush with flowers were all over. yes, the garden overlooks a gorgeous ravine. well, i've seen that many times, some this opulent and some not so.
the sun was hot, the air was humid, but if i had to get my money's worth, i should at least try and see if the next garden is what i wanted to see.

note: yes, i did see two dreamy gardens, the ones i wanted to see. one of them was the one with the garden rooms (see my posting on my main album:

many thanks for your views and comments. they are much appreciated.
@danig - feeling a bit jaded, aren't we? thank you, mate!
