the metropolitan united church is one of the very first photos i ever posted on 365 (photo #11). the structure on the right was part of the very first church built in the mid-nineteenth century situated quite a number of blocks southwest of this present structure. the main church building on the left was rebuilt in 1929 after a massive fire destroyed it in 1928, keeping the same architectural design of the original building. the metropolitan was originally a methodist but merged in 1925 with the presbyterians and congregationalists to form the united church. the church is known for its progressiveness and has long played an important role in toronto's LGBTQ community. the church is one of a trio of similarly designed structures near each other on the edge of toronto's financial district in a street appropriately named church street.
A wonderful half and half. So much history. I dare say I would have to go back through all my calendars to find my #11. Knowing you, you have complete files for your 365 project. 🥰
A truly remarkable looking church and your photo is a beautiful half-and-half. I really appreciate you including the information about it as well, Vikki.
