airplane

playing swap words today - airplane for artificial.

sat by the water's edge yesterday after work. not too cold but the wind was a bitch. seagulls seemed to know when someone's toting a camera as they seemed to land in front of you, do a 180 turn and cock their heads this and that way. took pictures but they're still ugly birds.

took photos of planes as they prepared to land on the island airport. upon downloading, i was surprised by this one, an 'air canada express' plane about to land and there's a bird flying in front of it. hard to see the bird, but that's enough to land this shot as post of the day. thank heavens for swap words!

indulge and view large, please. thank you.
Sue
hahha! I see the gull...he is escorting the plane safely in!

Nice swap! I sure do hope that bird was not actually in front of the plane. 1. He'd never out-fly it, and 2. if the plane hits the bird, it could cause some serious damage to the plane and even make it crash! But it sure makes for a great shot.

cool shot is that a bit of bad weather on the horizon

Gorgeous capture ... hope that bird wasn't TOO close! Beautiful lighting and the cloud movement is eye-catching.

nice timing! the clouds cooperated, too, at least for your shot. the things we see when we don't know we see them. amazing capture.

Nice capture - love the colours. I hope that bird wasn't playing chicken with the plane!

@roth - haha! probably in the hope there'd be scraps of food to be had! thank you, sue.

@olivetreeann - i think that the bird is actually farther to the left of the plane and not really in any way near it, i think it just looks like it's in front. but you're right, it would not be good if it hits the plane. but the gulls are pretty swift, unlike the canada geese that was the cause of one crash in the hudson some years back. thank you, ann.

@steeler - thank you, howard. no, the weather was actually quite nice, with a bit of cloud accumulation to the east. i think i over-processed the pic, that's what.

@karenann - thank you, karenann. no, the bird i think was way in the background. have not heard any stories about birds getting hurt around there. a lot of people and environmental groups are against that island airport so there's a lot of them watching the goings-on.

@catsmeowb - thank you, camille. 'tis true. it's always a surprise when you see a bonus in your pics, like that bird.

@alia_801 - thank you, alia. no, those gulls are too wise and smart to do that.

Holy moly! I saw that bird before I even read this and I am on my tablet too! What also got my attention is the processing. It is marvelous and brought out the contrast between the sky and clouds. Fav for me! Cool capture!

What a great capture! You can even read the words on the plane!
April 13th, 2012
great capture!but the birds can be a danger for the planes if they hit the engines!
April 13th, 2012
Awesome shot! The bird... aspires to be an airplane, maybe? Love your processing too. 8)

@myhrhelper - thank you, kathy. between the boardwalk and the point in the lake where the plane passes is only about a couple hundred yards. this was cropped. for the original shot see here: http://one-photograph-a-day.blogspot.ca/2012/04/day-795-its-plane.html

@meoprisan - thank you, mihaela. that is very true. but i think the pilots are trained for such emergencies, given the nature of the airport.

@myautofocuslife - thank you, livia. maybe the bird thinks it is an airplane!
