Now you might be laboring under the misapprehension that the word "shanty" is a noun. I must however inform you that in piratical circles it is also frequently used as a verb. as in......
"I hope you don't mind me asking my dear, but have you ever been shantied?"
To which there are many acceptable responses, including.....
"No I haven't good sir, but as I see you are wearing your finest shantying trousers, I would consider it a great honor if you would give me a thorough shantying."
or "Yes I have been shantied many times, but never by a pirate,"
It is also said that once you have been shantied by a pirate, no other type of shantyman will ever completely satisfy you.
