Today was Day 2 of this weekend's Chicago Architectural Foundation Open House -- an annual event that @danielwsc and @anwan, Daniel and Annette introduced me to. We spend a good part of the day touring different buildings so you'll be seeing photos over the next few weeks -- hundreds to choose from, though only a few worth posting. This is the University Club's Cathedral Hall -- for a photo of the whole room there's a shot on wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:University_Club_of_Chicago_Dining_Room_1909.jpg
The room is quite grand, with windows like this on the three walls you see when you enter. The building it's in was built in the early 1900s, designed by Martin Roche. The club is a private social club, but can be rented out for events and even operates as a hotel.
Three shots combined here to avoid the window light being blown out or the stained glass too dark.
Another image from today is in my main album (Aqua skyscraper): http://365project.org/taffy/365/2013-10-20
@bkbinthecity@mzzhope Thanks for the view and comments! It is an amazing annual event, that I've only recently discovered. Here's the link to it -- you can see all the types of buildings we could visit in the two days (humanly impossible, so good they repeat many from year to year!): http://www.openhousechicago.org/sites/
Great use of the HDR to balance this out. You might want to consider using 'lens correction' to make your verticals vertical. I don't know. I liked what it did with my fountain skyline.
@archaeofrog Is there a lens correction to use if I don't have LR or PS or PSE? I use Aperture with some plug ins, but don't remember seeing any for lens correction. I have snapseed on my iPad, but don't see it there either.
@archaeofrog Just found a plug-in called PTLens that is working great!! I wish I could substitute the photo as corrected -- it does look SO much better! I'll put it on flickr on my next break so you can see it. Thanks for the idea and push to figure out a correction program to use.
The windows are beautiful although (through no fault of your own) I do find the plain glass on the bottom distracting. By the way, as an ace member, I think you can change the photo- the only thing I can't remember is if you will lose the original comments. I don't think so, but I'm second guessing myself now.
Your HDR of that made for a great, even exposure, Taffy!
I think if you select to edit with picmonkey, then using picmonkey you upload the different photo, it keeps all the comments. Maybe play around with it using an "empty" slot before you try it on this one.
Two from today -- thanks for letting me tag along! It was great fun!
