Catching up with some Hawaii shots. This was from Oahu and was close in time to one of my rainbow photos looking in the opposite direction but from almost the same spot ( http://365project.org/taffy/the-also-ran-ph/2013-12-19 ). I set the shutter speed faster (but not to the point of turning the water into drops), given the light, to try to capture the rain coming down so was pretty happy with how this turned out. I was standing under a canvas gazebo-like tent to protect my camera.
@northy I just noticed the exif data when you asked the question! Reconstructing it (looking at the photos before), I'd been shooting rainbows in the other direction (it should be called 'after and before the rainbow') and can't figure out what I did. I suspect I went in the wrong direction with aperture by accident and when it came out too dark, I shortened the shutter speed accordingly without looking at aperture! I am guessing had I not done that (wishing I could say it was not by accident), I would not have ended up with the streaks of water and had drops instead. Oops...I should change the commentary!
@northy Ignore that explanation as well...bottom line, it was an accident using manual and going in the wrong direction with shutter speed or aperture!
@taffy been there, done that... but i don't have a pretty picture to tell the tale! i was actually thinking you were going for the slower shutter speed on purpose to catch the streaks of rain and got confused when comparing your commentary to the exif :)
@northy sadly....In my head, reconstructing what I did, I definitely was planning on a higher shutter speed than I ended up with. BUT, I wasn't totally off in that I didn't want it to be 'dolphin action' fast.
