I was sat at the kitchen table catching up on commenting when, out of the corner of my eye, I spotted the dozen or so birds at the feeders up and leave in what looked like panic. Normally, that can mean only one thing, and, sure enough, there on top of the pergola was a Sparrowhawk looking less than pleased that there were going to be no easy pickings today.
I knew that if I made a lot of movement he would be scared off, so I picked up the only camera with a longish lens that was on the table in front of me: this a fairly heavy crop from the best of three images before he took off to find lunch elsewhere.
Fav for great focus! So, you shot this through a window in your kitchen? I do pretty much all of my bird photos through windows and will never be able to get a focus this great.
Wow that's a great capture, lovely detail of his plumage and sharp focus on his eyes. I've never managed a really good one in my garden, as you say they are gone so quickly if you move.
@mej2011@laetitiapetrussa This is a tiny crop from the middle of the image from the oldest camera that I have... but it was sitting on the table in front of me. After I fired off three shots, I got up to move closer to the window to try for a better shot and , sure enough, away he went!
fantastic capture Richard...i wish i had them visit my garden...beautiful bird...i'm also glad it's in colour so we can see the detail in his plumage...and not much would escape those eyes...
Great POV from your sitting position; very much like the foliage behind him. What a splendid and disappointed bird he is. Delighted that our feeding flock made off PDQ!
