There is no doubt that the Max Dupain new Artist Challenge has excited the 365 community with well over 100 entries at very high standard of photography and creativity.
Congratulations to everyone who participated in the challenge for producing such wonderful images. It is truly an exhibition of work that pays homage to the inspiration of Max Dupain, a great photographic artist and pioneer. Selecting the finalists was an extraordinary privilege and I have borne in mind Dupain’s philosophy, as well the questions posed as guide for participants: should it be more about creating an original image based on the techniques and style of the artist... or, is it about trying to recreate an existing piece of art.
Significantly more than five finalists have been chosen, reflecting the high standard and breadth of scope from Dupain’s inspiration. This seems more democratic to me given that Dupains’s work can be broken down into portraits, natural world and architecture. For every entry submitted I opened the thumbnail, read the text, and where an original work by Dupain was cited as an inspiration I have viewed those as well, even if it meant googling an elusive image. It was highly rewarding and revealing.
So now begins the hard task of voting, and the anxious wait for all the finalists.
Voting will close in around 48 hours. I will then from my beach chair in Bali bring out the abacus, count the votes and announce the winner, who will select the artist for the next challenge. So now I will head off to airport, and once again, congratulate all participants and finalists

Without a doubt, its instant film you have to be a genius to make that do what you want. If all challenges came out this strong id pay more attention.

Wow,what a fantastic choice. Several worthy winners in there. Great job everyone, and Peter for your selection. Do we need to put a reminder out via the User? I mean this vote is in the Hot Topics list anyway, thought it might be good practice though for fallow times!
