Experimentation

I was going to have a go at focus stacking, but the (free) program I have doesn't do that! I really must pay out for Affinity as my 90 day trial is over! Anyway why do I need it, this all seems in focus!!

I'm 'teaching' myself BnW (I've borrowed some books from the library !!) and this shot is after a LOT of faffing with lighting (direct, diffused and different angles)

CC on this much appreciated - it may not have the best of subjects to start with!
The light is marvellous

Don’t know anything above photo stacking so not able to comment without fully understanding. I will do some homework. I like this image though.

I have no idea about focus stacking but the lighting is wonderful. Works so well in black and white

this is a great low key image!

I like your choice of the light source. Great B/W shot.

Lovely shot and great lighting.

it's very striking with the light from the right - are you keeping notes about what was less satisfactory about the others?

FAV Perfect subject and light in my opinion!

I like this...nice b&w...good lighting-highlights the allium providing contrast but in a subtle way

Fantastic! An instant fav. It's quite dramatic with your choice of b&w.

Brilliant

The negative space composition is very strong. I like the lighting on the pods on the right.

great processing and use of space

@graemestevens just a bit of sharpening- Id like to be better, should I set camera to black and white Graeme, or continue to convert??

@theredcamera that light was closer
@ghost13 v kind
@taffy thank you
@amyk I'm not normally subtle
@grammyn an opinion I value
@anniesue ummmmmm- no
@mittens thank you
@dutchothotmailcom it worked so I'm pleased
@koalagardens thank you
@365anne @wakelys take a series of photos focussing on a different part, and then in program stack them all together and everything is in focus ( that's the theory anyway) thank you both
@romainz thank you

@30pics4jackiesdiamond I shoot colour (RAW) and then convert in Affinity, then arse about with contrast etc. It keeps me off the streets.

@graemestevens thank you, I'm going to buy Affinity ( and you may have just become my 365 mentor for it!!)
June 30th, 2020
Love it! Reading above I've just bought affinity and it is so good! Watching lots of utube videos at moment to learn but can't wait to get going 😁

This is very well composed and executed. I would have cropped out the tiny bit on the right, though. The back light on this really gives it good depth. I especially like your sharp crisp focus. Have heard of Picolay which is a stacking software. I haven't used it yet but it is free. ( http://www.picolay.de/download.htm )

@joysabin thank you Joy, a tiny crop to right would have given same size border to top and left too!
@lyndamcg I had the 90 free day trial, I actually struggled with it, but then I'm clueless with processing, I'd watch the tutorials and a 10 minute jobcould take me about a day and a half and then I'd forget what buttons I'd used!!

Fabulous b&w capture. Great light and details.

Looking pretty sharp to me already Jackie, and the light is great

@haskar @fbailey thank ou both

Cool. For me, focus stacking is too fussy. But the results that others get are fabulous.

@randystreat oh is it?? In truth processing is fussy to me!

I love focus stacking for many subjects, but clearly you didn't need it here. I'd say you were off to a great start with your b/w learnings, this is terrific!

@aikiuser thank you very much
