TOO LITTLE TOO LATE says local resident

The council has obstructed access along the path of a local nature reserve. Is this to finally fulfill their plans to repair the seawall?

The wall was breached in 2020 and the sea has rushed in and out, gouging out the land as shown by local resident Susan Wakely’s photograph which was taken exactly a year after I first raised concerns about the potential damage caused by the breach.

The sea has now gouged a deep scar into the land, and it is difficult to imagine how The Council plan to rebuild the wall and make the land safe. Local resident Mr R asked if it is too late as he looked down into the 4’ deep chasm. As can be seen the fence posts around the field afforded no protection and have been washed away, the land is covered in seaweed and the salt water no longer drains from the land .

Nature though has started to reclaim the land lost when the sea wall was built at the turn of the last century. A variety of waders, gulls, egrets and herons have started to move onto the sea-waterlogged field, a kingfisher is regularly spotted in the vicinity.

Questions should be raised about why nothing was done to monitor the integrity of the wall and what is being done now to ensure no other breaches occur? Should Mother Nature be allowed to reclaim what is rightfully hers, thus saving a huge sum of our Poll Taxes being spent on repairing a huge hole intge ground, that nature will almost certainly breach again.

MY CHALLENGE FROM WENDY was to take a photo that could be published in a newspaper and include the accompanying commentary that would be published with it
You fulfilled the challenge very well with this. Crazy that they haven't actually performed any kind of action with this when it can only continue to deteriorate by its very nature!

@farmreporter here you go Wendy, hoope its the sort of thing yu had in mind?
@wakelys Hope you don't mind me nicking your photo in my news report!! . The stoopid council have erected two fences across the paths leading to the breach, but they're very easy to walk around!!! I cannot believe I went there minus fossicking gear but promised Him I wouldn't go looking and pick up anything on our walk today!!

Your photo and narrative make a great piece for a newspaper! But such a pity that the local council doesn’t take any steps

You have definitely fulfilled your challenge brief. It is going to be much more difficult for them to sort it out now than it would have been even 12 months ago.

You excellently met the challenge
March 12th, 2022
That is one of the most unusual challenges I have heard. I think you did it very well.

Challenge well met! I was totally impressed with the documentary form of your narrative. A photo is a wonderful illustration of the story and great to see Mr. R taking such an interest. The council has obviously never heard the phrase “a stitch in time saves nine”

I agree this photo and the commentary meet the challenge. IMHO, we are fighting a war that can't be won. Mother Nature is going to beat us. One has to wonder what the purpose of fighting that war is. To keep "prime" areas for high end housing is the first thing that comes to my mind. I think more and more areas are choosing not to fight with Mother Nature.

@salza I think let nature have it back myself, it's too late now. I'll keep you posted

@dutchothotmailcom I did wonder, so thank you
@linnypinny very kind, thank you
@randystreat this would be prime housing real estate, if it didn't flood twice a day!! Fabulous view, expensive postal code

So good for your challenge. And your commentary would ring true for many places around the world. We can see it in action over here at the moment!

Great shot of Mr R and loving your news story.
