This would have been an occasion I'd have liked to have been with a photography class so as to attain some advice... I couldn't capture the beautiful dark orange that it was on rising. I wish I'd been in this particular spot as it was just coming up, though there may have been no water reflection... I can get both a tight close up (60x) and at this distance, but in between I'm getting a lot of "red-light reflection feed-back" from within the camera. ...it could be my choice of camera... This was prettier in the moment than this transfer to image... Any suggestions will be happily considered. I plan to watch a moon-rise chart and try this again...
@overalvandaan I'm going to do a little studying this afternoon and go out just before 10 tonight when the moon rises... Denise @gilbertwood had an excellent suggestion... And Saxa, that horizon is a bit tricky...the land curves around the harbour, and the buildings on the left rise up a hill. I "straightened one", thinking the same as you, but then the reflections were listing. It might be easier to see that in daylight! Thanks, though...a horizon can make or break an image!
@overalvandaan She just suggested I google "How to photograph the moon"... I didn't bring the long lenses for my big Nikon because I'm loving the ease of my bridge cameras...but I haven't read enough directions for using them under special conditions...so this moon thing may take another month!
Some more info...just found it for you! Aperture f11 (don't change this one) shutter speed 1/125 & ISO 100 - these 2 you can alter depending on fullness/brightness of moon! I used a 300m lens. Have fun :)
@gilbertwood Thank you Denise! That's so thoughtful of you! I had to upload the manual for this camera (I bought it before coming up here in June...) I find it goes only to f8 which is quite low...I think there must be a way to adjust that. So I'm on a couple of learning curves here! (I was using f8 - ISO 100 last night and, on the tripod the exposure was for 6 seconds...quite a difference from what you suggest! So back to reading up on all this, and again, THANK YOU so much!
Everything is said already so I only can say I like it the way it is. Nothing and nobody is perfect. I for me I`m satisfied as I can live with the mistakes. ( I really can imagine the moon reflection is this way as you see it often)
@pyrrhula "Good morning" (9 AM) from Lunenburg! Y|es, the water reflections are gorgeous...and really, more so with the water movement! Nice to see you as I start my day...going to the Farmer's Market shortly...
@allie912 Thanks for finding kind words to say about this, Allie :) It's "a bit more subtle" than I was hoping for that evening, but I'll keep after it while we're here and have vistas like this...
