Desert Oasis by Weezilou

Desert Oasis

Now THAT was a fountain that dominated the landscape! We were on approach to Phoenix, Arizona USA where the temperature was 106F (41.11C) degrees! For all those who had to step out of their air-conditioned homes, this must have been a cooling sight!

I do know that in the hot, dry Arizona heat, evaporative cooling works best, and many people with pools or outdoor patios have misters lines around them to cool the air. Maybe (just maybe) the breezes blowing through this water help to cool the air (a little) as well...

Brrrr...now the temps have dropped to 102F (31.22C)! You know what they say there... "...but it's a DRY heat..."
Wow... that's too hot for me! Wonderful ariel view!

That does stand out. I bet it evaporates quickly in that heat! Nice shot

Sounds like one of our typical summer's days. The misters do work to cool things down especially if there is a slight breeze (well they do work here!) We are thinking about installing some around our entertainment area.

Great airplane capture Louise! Looks hot!

Super capture.
September 3rd, 2015
wow! send more of that hot temps here, or eastward. and hold it there until after september! :-) fabulous!

Fantastic view! it certainly looks hot and dry all around it :)
September 3rd, 2015
Wow! I would really struggle with that heat!
What a huge fountain! Hopefully it does bring some relief.

Wow, what a view! Great shot! My daughter moved to Las Vegas and it's very hot there but of course she says it's a dry heat.

Knew it had to be Phoenix, surreal site flying in. Great shot!

Well spotted.

@danette THAT one was hard to miss! I have a friend who sells real estate (likely) in that vicinity and I plan to ask her what the story is! It was certainly eye catching and we were still at a fairly high altitude!

@chevymom Having spent a number of years in Tucson (which for-all-the-world is as hot as Vegas) that business about dry heat is actually true... The down and dirty of it is that when you sweat, it evaporates so instantly that you can almost feel cool! As teenagers, we'd spend a summer day by the pool, roll in and come back out shivering!

@salza It's always fascinating to find similar climates in other parts of the world. It's fun to see how you're able to relate to this! In the desert many restaurants with patios have misters under the eves of the cover. You'd think people would get wet, but not all all! Just cool!

@redy4et Hi Elizabeth! Yes, when they said it was 106, suddenly it LOOKED like 106! I was happy enough to just be passing through and back home (for 2 weeks) to a cool morning here!

Thank you Magic Monkeys of 365 for somehow sending this to the Popular Page if only for a moment! It's amazing what a little post processing can do to a "planescape" photo! If I only had time to do about 200 more..."From Sea to Shining Sea" as the song goes!

Amazing clarity in this shot. Did you read about the controversy about the musters at the concentration camp in Germany? Talk about lack of sensitivity!
September 4th, 2015
what a contrast! i'm not sure i'd want to experience 106 though.

@allie912 Out of the loop on that one (and most news anymore), Allie. Can you send a link? (And lest you think people should keep well-informed and follow the news, I used to be a news junkie. One day I realized I was demoralized, depressed and angry by all that was pelting me and I thought I might do better than wick the troubles in the world and try to improve whatever sphere I was in each day. Two years into it, no television or news but what people think I might want to know or I cross inadvertently, and I not only feel better, but I'm available to console and calm friends who are on news overload! That said, truly I'm not at all apathetic, and I look to hear or read what you want to share!)

@Weezilou I was wrong. Poland, not Germany http://tinyurl.com/nlrr3vd

Louise here is a link to the story regarding the misters at Auschwitz: http://edition.cnn.com/2015/09/01/world/auschwitz-holocaust-showers/

@allie912 @salza Thank you both...yes, I can see how it struck a sensitive and most painful nerve, though I believe that was never the intention. Every human has a fragile tipping point, and in an unexpected moment unintended consequences can be set in motion. My heart goes out to all involved as I'm sure the hurt was so very unintentional. (Allie, I was trying to figure out how "musters" at a German Concentration Camp had anything to do with the Phoenix landscape! Damn typos!)

That's the Fountain Hills community - a place that I use to get confused with a certain Fountain Valley all the time. It's a very interesting fountain that has sensors and positioners that read the wind and adjust to ensure that the fountain always goes straight up. And 106 is nothing in Phoenix. I've experienced 126 there! Be glad you didn't have that, because it shuts down the take-offs.

@stray_shooter Ron, you're a wealth of knowledge and information!!! I'm sending all those who appeared interested over to see what you had to say in your reply! That's fascinating! @lisamccloskey @allie912 @danette @slash @chevymom @kwiksilver @gilbertwood @summerfield @thresheg @redy4et @salza @shepherdmanswife @kwind (Well, that's all of you, but I thought Ron's information was so interesting. FV, where I live, has so such fountain! ...what a travesty!)
September 4th, 2015
Cool airplane shot if not the temp
September 4th, 2015
@Weezilou Ha! Louise, I saw "musters" after you replied, but it was too late and I was too tired to do anything about it!
September 4th, 2015
To hot for me. Even with a sight on the fountain.
September 6th, 2015
super fantastic shot
