I think the planner tells most of the story & I hope it's legible! I wanted to make meringues for a number of people, so was doing just that when Ken said he heard drums outside! Parades never pass my house in California! A friend called and suggested I go to the church to see the blessing of the animals, but Dinah was nowhere to be found. We took our cameras instead! Back home I rushed to clean up, package meringues and put my notes with them for delivery. I might have relaxed at the opera, but it was so exhilarating, 10 exquisite voices filling the room with the sound of a full choir, I felt positively exhausted afterward, it was such an emotional experience! Many said they felt as I did and one friend was even weeping tears of joy (but she tends to be emotional anyway!) Afterward we were off to dinner with our friends at the-only-restaurant-in-town open on a Sunday evening! Good thing it was as they had a lot of hungry mouths to feed and the dinner was nothing short of superb!
I remember little after we came home! It's fair to say we fell into bed, exhausted!
I'm still not overly pleased with this calendar page, but it does depict just how full the day was! @kwind@allie912@summerfield I received your nice messages but felt the need to start fresh...AND set this on the correct day, if nothing else!
i like watching parades from the window of our house when i was young back in the old country. i could hear them from miles away and always knew they'd pass by our house. whenever i see or hear a brass band, it just brings back good old childhood memories. i was told that when i was four, i snuck out of the house and followed a band along with other street kids to the next town, across the river. well, there was also a rainbow and the band was heading its way so that's why i followed. :-)
I'm exhausted just looking at this. I thought you went there to relax? Looks like Nova Scotia is treating you well. We miss you back here in shakyland!
@cruiser It just struck me... You live in the land of Pavlova! Do you really need my recipe? (haha!) At any rate, I'm sending it as it's a perfect one every time:
4 LG egg whites at room temp
1/2 t Cream of tarter
Dash of salt
1 C (200 grams) white (caster) sugar
1 t Pure Vanilla extract
Begin to whip the eggs, adding the cream of tarter & salt. Slowly add the sugar and when the meringue is stiff, add the vanilla.
It helps to have someone hold open the piping tube while you dollop in the meringue. Pipe in a desired size on parchment paper, a brown paper bag, or a Teflon or Silpat baking sheet.
Bake 250 degrees for 65 min. Turn off the heat and let sit in the oven another 5-10 minutes. Remove, cool and pack in a tightly sealed container. They will go soft and chewy (not desirable!) if left to sit out.
Optional, sprinkle with crushed peppermint sticks for a Christmas flavour. That one's a real crowd pleaser!
Enjoy, Chris!
