I am proud to have taken a photo during all 365 days of 2017, and I loved the first year of my project. Thanks to everyone for being so kind and supportive! Amid all these good feelings, though, boy, did I have some clunkers! Some bad photos captured good memories, some bad photos shared some hopefully interesting slice of life, some bad photos were good ideas that were poorly executed, and some bad photos were just thoroughly bad!
I thought it might be fun to post my least favorite photo of the year, and I hope others will join in by sharing here or by tagging it worstphotooftheyear.
I think this one was mine: I hurriedly snapped a picture of the bottom of a metal tub, thinking I might have captured some interesting lighting. I didn’t look at it on my computer until the next day and, ugh!, I was stuck with posting this one, all grainy and a mess….
I love that this community brings so many different points of view together in such a supportive way. If other people end up posting I am sure I will feel envious about some of the great "worst" photos that get shared. I have been amazed by the talent of so many photographers in this community and their ability to consistently post awesome photos.
@homeschoolmom Loved your funny comment, Lisa, but I like the action of your shot and the beauty of the feathers. That must have been great to see this from so close by!
What was I thinking?? It'a out of focus, has camera shake and is pretty boring too!! It'a gong to be hard for there to be one worse than this I reckon Marcy!! (oh, well done on yor year of pics!!)
Well, it's not really fair, because I don't post every day (any more), so I'm sure I left some horrible pictures unposted. But of what I did put up, this one ties for my least favorite. I said it was a picture of a building, but it's really just a bunch of cars...
that was interesting looking back over the year, i had a lot of gaps and i guess i just dont post these days if i dont like my photos! but this one is probably the one i like the least that i did post was a self portrait on film, i didnt want to waste it!
@kali66 How cool that you did it on film! I have thought about trying a roll for old time's sake. I remember being so careful about not wasting any shots, and now with digital I will think nothing of shooting many shots of a subject from multiple angles. Your self-portrait meets the artist challenge so well with the tone and your pensive expression.
I love this! Keeping us all humble and laughing at ourselves. Here's mine. I was challenged to do a light trails shot and had set up in the median of the road. What I didn't realize was that each car passing by was creating a buffeting wind that was shaking the camera. Even without the shaking, it would still be a terrible shot.
Going back through my project, there actually weren't that many that I'm not happy with - I thought there would be a lot more!
But this one is just... meh. It didn't work out how I wanted, it's not abstract enough to be a good abstract, but also doesn't have enough of a subject to be anything else, it's not in focus, it's not very sharp...
What fun to see everyone's choice! There are so many things to like about these photos. I guess even when a photo comes out disappointing to the photographer, it can still offer something interesting to the viewer.
It does make us go back and analyze what we've posted for the year -- and that's always good to be analytical, right? I find that my love of the nighttime for photography means my shots tend to be dark, and sometimes so dark you can't see what the image is about. In this case, I should have had a tripod, and I should have lifted shadows a bit so it wasn't only about the lights, but also about the city.
@marcy0414 Ha ha good idea. I'll have to look through mine. I know there are a bunch that would easily qualify. Sorry, I have to agree with @sarahlth I like your "worst" -- neat abstract. And just to spite you, I'm gonna put it in my favorites!
That was depressing: Looking over my 2017, searching for worst / least favorite image. There's way too many that qualify. After some internal debate, I chose this one:
Ill conceived, poorly executed. And worst of all BORING...
No amount of post-processing rescued this blurry and hastily taken photo. There were a couple others that came close but this was definitely my worst photo of the year. Great thread Marcy!!
This shot from early August was my first attempt at my get pushed challenge -- minimalism. But the minimal aspect is all it has going for it. Super boring.

Ok, here's mine. Sadly, I had a hard time picking. I posted several bad ones last year! LOL!
The epitome of ugliness
I was thinking getting the thread together for the best pic last year, you have just reminded me to do it

Guess I was drunk when I took it?
! @kirkjoshua really?? Thank you!

I really can't see why I took this one - except it was clutching at straws on a day with no inspiration.
It was either this or point the camera in a random direction and press the shutter.
