Devil's Pool by dkbarnett

Devil's Pool

On Thursday I travelled home from Taupo to New Plymouth and decided to go via Waiotapu Thermal area which is located between Taupo and Rotorua. This lake is known as the Devil's Pool. The colour was amazing. Apparently it varies between yellow and green depending on the level of minerals going into it. When I was there it was an incredible highlighter yellow/green colour. It looked unreal!
It certainly is a very colourful place ... such vibrant colour

Wow - amazing. You can see why it was christened "Devil's Pool"!. The chemistry of that area must be quite unique.

Amazing. Must be a lot of minerals in the surrounding ground.

@julzmaioro The colour is certainly crazy!
@islambad Quite something isn't it!!?
@777margo It is the minerals in the water.
@dide Thanks - it was a bit of a detour - but so worth it. Even if I had to drive home in the dark and heavy rain!!
@kiwinanna It certainly is very green!
@robz I think its more that the heat brings all the minerals out of the rock.
@littleconnie I guess there is, but the heat brings it out and into the water.
@dawnee @ziggy77 @elkereturns Thanks so much
@paul10 Thanks Paul. New Zealand is such a small country it makes it easier to visit all the different locations, and we do have a lot of variety for a small country.
@merrelyn It certainly is!
@taffy I agree with you, it is alien looking. I couldn't believe it when I saw it!
@thrumylenz Thanks Diane.
@jgpittenger Thanks Jane, I do agree with you - very strange and rather wonderful
@fbailey It sure is.
@delwynforsythe There certainly was a 'Rotorua' smell of sulphur, but not unpleasant.
@dulciknit I agree Alison, it is a crazy colour.
@stimuloog I really loved being at the thermal area and seeing this. So awesome.
