Napier was flattened by an earthquake in 1931 so therefore the rebuild incorporated many buildings in the art deco style. Every year Napier celebrates an Art Deco festival. This year we managed to get the whole family together for the weekend. Before dinner tonight we did a family portrait. Only two grandchildren are missing from the whole family line-up. We left them with a babysitter so we could have a more relaxing evening. The car is a 1931 Chrysler.
This is brilliant Delwyn, love the whole thing, the era the clothes & the composition of this shot. Fave. Hoping to go to Napier while I'm over in May / June!
This is brilliant ... what a great family portrait .... superbly captured.... my son was in Napier for 6 months for his cricket and I can remember wishing when we visited that it would have been great to visit when the festival was on :))
@kali66@fbailey Thanks so much @nickspicsnz Yes they did - actually most people in the town get into the spirit of it. It is one of the things I really like about the festival. It is possible to take street photos that look as though they really could be of that era. @paul10 Haha thanks Paul :-) @jack4john@ziggy77 Thanks, yes very happy to have this photo as a memory and a keepsake. Just one of those ones that seemed to work out just right! Thanks goodness - the family wouldn't have been too patient if I took too long about it!! @jodies We were all dressed up for dinner anyway so it was such a great opportunity. It wasn't even me that thought of doing it, but so happy it worked out. @jamibann@lynnz@merrelyn@babbs36 Thanks so much :-) @happypat Thanks so much Pat. Nice to hear you are coming to NZ this year. Where do your sons farm? Hopefully you get to visit my part of the country as well. We live in Taranaki. @jgpittenger Thanks Jane :-) @deborah63 Thanks Debbie, I am very happy with it @eudora Thanks Diane :-) It was a lot of fun! @littleconnie@777margo@nearlyincontrol Thanks so much :-) @888rachel Thanks Rachel, over the whole festival most people are wearing the right era clothing - it is a lot of fun. It was such an elegant era. @joemuli Thanks so much :-) @gamelee Thanks Lee, it was a great opportunity and I'm so glad it worked out @alijchapman You would have really enjoyed it, we have been to the festival a few times and it is great fun :-) @dide Thanks Dianne :-) @robz Thanks Rob @kiwichick Thanks Lesley - yes you are right. Little Flynn is just 4 months old and a pretty chilled out baby. The others are 4 and 2 and very lively - we wanted a relaxed dinner!!
@dkbarnett we went to Taranaki a few years ago looking at farms. Quite pricy over your way, good grass & good rainfall apparently! Any way too long a srprptory to go into but our eldest farms in Morrinsville & The younger one doesn't farm as such now but has a fencing business, they live in Kinloch. I come over every year, husband every alternate. We do tend to stay fairly close to family areas although they do take us about but never been back to Taranaki. We have been to South Island a couple of times, we have a granddaughter who lives near Christchurch. I have had quite a few 365 meet ups over the years which is lovely.
