We left home mid afternoon to head over to Molesey to collect the unsold Christmas cards and to drop off my invoice. I had a chance to briefly catch pop on news.
Then we drove onto Karen and Ian’s house as we had been invited out to dinner to celebrate Charley and James birthday and to finally present James with his 18th birthday present. Last month Colin had commissioned my local framer to create a box frame with a presentation plaque to contain four golf clubs that his father - James’s great grandfather had used back in the 1950’s. On the back we had also attached a label with a photo of Colin aged about 5-6 years old with his father. I think it is clear that James was really pleased with his totally unique present. We also had books and vouchers for Charley for her 22nd birthday.
We then set off (giving a lift to to Charley’s friend and her mother) to the restaurant which we had visited a few years ago for Father Day. Oh my goodness. It was constant talk all the way and trying to concentrate on driving non-familiar narrow country roads in the icy darkness was a real challenge but we made it. Thank goodness we were at the other end of the table. Food was very good, especially the affogato for dessert. It was the same intense taking and questioning on the way home, so disturbing that I missed a turning and had to take a very narrow winding lane to get back on track.
We did make it home in one piece eventually, Colin drove and I enjoyed some peace and quiet.
