Wonder if that is where the expression " lucky duck" comes from? Are these houseboats or barges? Nice shot

@nyusha @jgpittenger These are canal barges aAnna & Jane & people live in them or have them for weekends. Sometimes they sail up & down the canal or if they live in them all year round mostly stay static.

How lovely! I've always wanted to do a trip along the canals. My parents did one many many years ago and really enjoyed it.

@ellida Yes it is quite short 41 miles without any locks! It is now linked to the Leeds Liverpool Canal by the Millennium link although you have to cross the tidal estuary in Preston Dock. There are plans to reopen the northern bit at Tewitfield to Kendal, this part was lost when they built the M6 motorway.

We have very few houseboats on our canals here in New York State. It looks like it would be fun, but I wonder if it really is when the weather turns wet.

I'm glad you got out and about before the rain started and got this lovely shot. I had some very happy barge holidays in my early twenties with friends, very sociable holidays!
