Lancaster Castle

For @maggiemae

Lancaster Castle is a medieval grade 1 listed building which belongs to the Duke of Lancaster who is of course the Queen.

A long & very interesting history is there to be googled if you are interested.

It sits on a hill overlooking the city of Lancaster & is a very important part of the long history of the town.

The infamous Pendle Witches were tried here for one.
Goodness, it is grand and looks extremely well preserved! Something for Lancaster and even England to be proud of!

@beryl Yes indeed Beryl, that is true. The Queen is the Duke of Lavaster. She owns many houses, land & farms in this area under the name of the Duchy of Lancaster.

@happypat --perhaps I should explain further - When I read this I was watching a prog with Steven Fry and Julian Clary in it and imagining the D of L parading down the street as a "Queen " really struck me as funny -- just my sense of humour and vivid imagination !!!!

Great shot - the castle looks in very good condition. I like the tones in the photo with the trees, stone and driveway complementing each other.

@beryl I like your sense of humour Beryl......it's what keeps us going sometimes! It is rather weird the Queen having that title, I think she has many more odd ones too!

A wonderful capture.

Oh, wonderful shot. I read about it in wikipedia - fantastic that you can visit a castle built in the 11th century - breathtaking. Thank you for sharing it.

You've taken me straight back to a wonderful little cottage with 2 ft thick walls and dark oak dining table and the most amazing roast beef dinners cooked by old friends (now both passed on to the dining room in the sky) and we always had to stand and toast The Queen Duke of Lancaster before we started! Happy days.

@judithg oh that's lovely to look back & remember those days Judith.....a great toast it is too!
