We've already returned to Chicago after a too-short three days in Barcelona. Of my nearly a thousand photos, my husband picked out this one as representing the Gaudi Day that Taffy and I had yesterday. Taken in the center courtyard of La Pedrera (a Unesco World Heritage Site), following the nighttime light show projected on the statues outside (to be featured in future photos, as well as one I posted last year: http://365project.org/jyokota/365/2014-10-04 ).
Mine was taken with a super-wide lens accentuating the long, tall lines of the iron/brick support system for the building; Taffy's with a fisheye, giving it beautifully curving lines: http://365project.org/taffy/365/2015-12-17
If you have time to view on black, it makes it feel like you are looking up at the night sky, too!
It's hard to decide which shot from the courtyard I like best -- yours or Taffy's. I think yours by a hair. Fascinating place! I love Gaudi's work, but only have seen it in cj
@mcsiegle -- We prefer to think of our companion posts as complementary ways of capturing and editing our worlds, never competitively! Thanks for appreciating our efforts
Oh yes Junko a stunning capture of this stunning building!! What a lot you crammed into your short time in Barcelona. Can't wait to see your photos!! Huge Fav!!
@jyokota Yes I know. Rest assured, I don't really think of you two as competitors. My comment above, btw, somehow got cut off mid sentence and the last "word" makes no sense. I think I fell asleep while writing it. It should have said, "...but only have seen it in pictures." Maybe someday I'll travel there and look up into that space myself!
What fascinates me is that two photos taken of the same subject can have two so entirely different interpretations and feel. I'm so glad (and relieved) I can enjoy both points of view without nailing my colours to the mast.
I thought I'd commented last night...shows how tired I was. Anyway, of course I love this -- and think that viewing on black is critical for bringing out all the subtle shifts in color, as well as the structure. What an amazing place!
Wow, we did Barcelona as a day trip this year but didn't have time to see much at all as you needed to have booked to go into all these places As it was high season and very busy. We must go back and do a long weekend. This is fab!
I should say I like this composition more than the one in Taffy's shot. It is really dynamic and is really draws you into this "vortex" of the building. Plus the building itself is stunning. It was one of my favourite in Barcelona.
