The railcar stopped right outside our hotel to deliver us all back there in the late afternoon. The only mishap today was one bus getting stuck in heavy gravel. Two buses were to take us to the Treetop Walk. After much discussion and futile attempts to dig this enormous bus out, a strop was found, attached to the other bus who then pulled this bus out of the gravel! The strop broke, the bus got stuck again but eventually pulled out to the accompaniment of much clapping.
Our little group of friends had dinner together in the hotel and really wanted to party but everyone else had gone back to their rooms by 9pm- the grey haired variety needed early nights! However we gave the staff a hard time and had Irish coffees.
You sound like my sort of holiday makers....I never go to bed early on holiday...you can sleep at home! Looks wet & slightly cold but I have heard the west coast is wetter! Wet in North Island too ! It sounds a very eventful trip so far.........still pioneering!
@happypat Yup, still doing great things every day. Today is the trip back across the mountains to the other side of NZ and snow is forecast at 600meters. The top of the Pass is 900 metres so should be exciting!
@panthora One of those trips where you start off as strangers then leave at the end as friends - but the age group of us all dictated that we couldn't remember each other's names!
