The late award.. by maggiemae

The late award..

This was the trophy awarded to John's father, Burt Munro in recognition of his exploits!. Burt was inducted into the American Motorbike Hall of Fame in 2006 but it took another 10 years before the guys in NZ decided they had better do this!
Its a lovely crystal affair and I put it in the window to shoot. It took a lot of work as there seemed to be noise in the shot no matter what I did. Still not sure how to get this clear or perhaps fuzzy behind!
It is a beautiful trophy .. and great recognition for Bert Munro... a NZ icon..

@julzmaioro Thank you Julia (me bathing in the limelight) - though I've never put my leg over a motorbike (going) in my life!

Brilliant - I was reading a Burt Munro picture book to a class at school the other day and they loved it.

A beautiful crystal trophy - so nice to have and to hold -- John must be very proud !

@dide That lovely children's book - yes we have that - but before this one, it was Hillary's story!

@beryl He never says much but that generally means he is happy!

I am surprised they took so long to do this. Burt Munro is a kiwi legend.

@deliad I'd have to agree with that and Roger Donaldson's movie was the catalyst! Back in 2005~!

Great trophy and well captured Maggie

Another bit of history of which I was totally ignorant. I love the way 365 opens my eyes to the world.

How exciting to have this now, even if it has taken a long time for NZ to get around to recognising your father-in-law's achievements.

Glad at last Bert Munro has been recognised in his own country. Try photographing this against a black background three-quarters lit by a Led light - a good Led torch would do.

@vignouse My husband also told me to put a black board behind it but I wanted to capture the light reflection in the trophy. But your light suggestion might do that too!

A fitting honor- glad we Americans thought of it as well.

I think your photo is terrific as is but the black background might give you the effect you are looking for

Fascinating, what a wonderful story. Better late than never for the award!

you have done well photographing this. I find these sorts of shots difficult. There was a quiz on TV the other week and the question was where was Burt Munro born and it is only through following your project that I knew the answer - you learn lots here about all sorts of things.
